The Commander

Partner with Khorvath Brightflame (When this creature enters, target player may put Khorvath into their hand from their library, then shuffle.)

Double strike

Dragons your team controls have double strike.

Guide

Gameplan

Sylvia Brightspear is a 2/2 double striker that beats down on her own while turning your team's Dragons into instant-kill threats. Played solo she anchors a mono-white Knights/aggro shell, but her real power is fetching her partner Khorvath Brightflame to splash red and build a Boros Dragon aggro deck. The plan: deploy efficient threats, buff Sylvia or your Dragons, and end games fast with doubled combat damage.

Strengths

  • Free tutor for Khorvath via Partner, instantly enabling a Boros Dragon strategy
  • Double strike granted to all Dragons your team controls turns even modest fliers into lethal threats
  • Cheap three-mana commander that pressures the board immediately
  • Strong commander-damage clock when equipped or buffed (double strike loves Voltron gear)

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white alone has weak card draw and limited interaction
  • Fragile body (2/2) that dies to nearly all removal and chump-blocks
  • Heavily reliant on creatures sticking; vulnerable to board wipes
  • Without red splash the 'Dragons get double strike' text is largely wasted

Key Cards

  • Khorvath Brightflame — Her partner; expands the deck to Boros and rewards Dragons with haste and card draw alongside Sylvia's double strike.
  • Skullclamp — Fixes mono-white's card-draw problem and refuels Knight/aggro boards.
  • Embercleave — Cheap to cast in a creature-heavy deck and stacks with double strike for explosive one-shot kills.
  • Goldspan Dragon — A premium Dragon that ramps and, with Sylvia, deals doubled damage while attacking.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Protection, card draw, and burn that combine with double strike to trigger twice.

Upgrade Path

Lean into the partner: run Khorvath and build true Boros Dragons with Goldspan Dragon, Terror of the Peaks, and Scourge of Valkas for damage payoffs. Add ramp (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet) and efficient equipment (Swords, Embercleave) plus protection like Swiftfoot Boots and Teferi's Protection to insulate against wraths. Improve interaction and card advantage with Smothering Tithe, Esper Sentinel, and targeted removal to close the gaps mono-white aggro normally leaves open.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a buffed, double-striking Sylvia
  • ▸Wide Dragon swarm dealing doubled combat damage
  • ▸One-shot kills via Embercleave or sword-equipped double strikers

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Sylvia's double strike doubles equipment and combat buffs for fast commander-damage kills.
  • Dragon Tribal (with Khorvath) — Her static ability gives every Dragon double strike, making a Boros Dragons swarm brutally lethal.
  • Aggro/Knights — As a cheap evasive-ish beater she leads a low-curve white aggressive deck.
  • Boros Stax-Aggro — Pair fast threats with hatebears and taxes to slow opponents while you race them.
