The Commander

When Syr Armont enters, create a Monster Role token attached to another target creature you control. (If you control another Role on it, put that one into the graveyard. Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and has trample.)

Enchanted creatures you control get +1/+1.

Guide

Gameplan

Syr Armont turns every Aura and Role you stick on your creatures into an extra +1/+1 anthem, so you build a wide-and-tall enchantress board, then swing with trample-enabled threats. Early turns ramp and play cheap enchantress payoffs; mid-game you bestow Auras/Roles to snowball a few creatures into one-shot kills. The commander itself hands out a Monster Role on cast, immediately buffing a key attacker.

Strengths

  • Doubles down as a both an anthem and an Aura/Role payoff, rewarding GW's deep enchantment pool
  • Card-advantage engines (enchantress effects) make Aura strategies far more resilient than usual
  • Trample from Monster Roles pushes through chump blockers for lethal Voltron damage
  • Cheap commander-independent value: many enchantments and Roles work even if Armont is removed

Weaknesses

  • Aura-heavy builds risk two-for-one blowouts to single targeted removal or bounce
  • Board wipes and edicts can erase the buffed creature and all attached Auras at once
  • Relatively grindy and creature-dependent, with no built-in interaction or evasion beyond trample
  • GW lacks reliable card draw outside enchantress effects and is weak to fast combo

Key Cards

  • Ellivere of the Wild Court — A second Role-generating anthem that draws cards whenever a Virtuous creature attacks, perfectly mirroring Armont's plan.
  • Sythis, Harvest's Hand — Premier enchantress engine, drawing a card for every enchantment (including Auras and saga-style pieces) you cast.
  • Setessan Champion — Draws a card and grows whenever you cast an enchantment, snowballing the Aura shell.
  • Sage's Reverie — Reads cards equal to your Auras on the creature and grows it, a huge payoff under Armont's anthem.
  • All That Glitters — A cheap Aura that scales with your wide enchantment board and stacks with Armont's bonus for lethal swings.
  • Generous Gift — Premium GW removal that answers anything while you out-value opponents with enchantments.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into enchantress engines (Sythis, Setessan Champion, Eidolon of Blossoms, Argothian Enchantress) so Aura-based two-for-ones become card advantage instead of liabilities, and add protection like Hexproof-granting Auras (Snakeskin Veil, Heroic Intervention) to shield your stacked threat. Tighten the curve with cheap ramp (Birds of Paradise, Wild Growth) and finish with Overrun effects (Craterhoof Behemoth, Triumph of the Hordes) for explosive closes. For higher power, add fast mana, Sterling Grove/Enlightened Tutor to find key enchantments, and Smothering Tithe for resource dominance.
