BuildCard details

The Commander

Instant, sorcery, and Dragon spells you control can't be countered.

Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell from your hand, if Taigam attacked this turn, that spell gains rebound. (Exile the spell as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast that card from exile without paying its mana cost.)

Guide

Gameplan

Attack with Taigam, then chain instants and sorceries that all gain rebound, effectively doubling your spells for free across two turns. You grind card and tempo advantage with draw, removal, and extra-turn spells while protecting your engine, then snowball into an overwhelming spell-based finish. The deck plays like a controlling spellslinger that punishes opponents with repeated value.

Strengths

  • Free spell copies via rebound effectively double every instant/sorcery you cast post-attack
  • Uncounterable instants, sorceries, and Dragons make your key spells reliable in spell-heavy pods
  • Strong control shell in UW with premium counters, removal, and card draw
  • Rebound on extra-turn spells like Time Warp creates devastating loops

Weaknesses

  • Requires Taigam to connect in combat each turn, so he's a removal and evasion magnet
  • Rebound only triggers on spells cast from hand, not flashback/exile zones
  • UW lacks fast mana ramp and card-advantage engines compared to other colors
  • Slow to close games and vulnerable to fast combo or aggressive decks before the engine comes online

Key Cards

  • Time Warp — Rebound turns one extra turn into two, snowballing tempo and attacks with Taigam.
  • Whispersilk Cloak — Grants unblockable and shroud so Taigam reliably connects and survives targeted removal.
  • Expropriate — A game-ending spell that doubles via rebound for absurd vote and turn advantage.
  • Ral, Storm Conduit — Pings opponents whenever you cast or copy spells, turning rebound chains into a wincon.
  • Aggravated Assault — Combined with extra-turn rebounds and Taigam attacks, generates repeatable combat steps.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana like Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and signets to deploy Taigam and chain spells ahead of curve. Lean into extra-turn density (Temporal Manipulation, Time Stretch, Walk the Aeons) plus protection like Lightning Greaves and Robe of the Archmagi to guarantee Taigam connects. Top-end payoffs like Expropriate, Aetherflux Reservoir, and Approach of the Second Sun give consistent, doubled-up wins.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Chaining rebounded extra-turn spells to take infinite or near-infinite turns
  • ▸Spellslinger damage payoffs like Ral, Storm Conduit or Aetherflux Reservoir triggered by doubled spells
  • ▸Beating down with Taigam plus Dragons or token swarms over repeated combat steps
  • ▸Overwhelming card and resource advantage that grinds opponents out of the game

Archetypes

  • Spellslinger — Taigam doubles every instant and sorcery via rebound, rewarding a deck packed with impactful spells.
  • Control — Uncounterable spells plus UW removal and counters let you dominate the stack and grind out value.
  • Extra Turns — Rebounding Time Warp-style spells chains additional turns to bury opponents in card and combat advantage.
  • Combo — Rebound loops with extra-turn spells and damage payoffs like Ral close games out of nowhere.
