BuildCard details

The Commander

Indestructible

Battalion — Whenever Tajic and at least two other creatures attack, Tajic gets +5/+5 until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with creatures and attack wide to trigger Battalion, turning indestructible Tajic into a 7/7 threat while your team applies pressure. You're a go-wide Boros aggro deck that wins through combat damage backed by anthems and team-wide buffs.

Strengths

  • Indestructible commander dodges most removal and board wipes, so it's a reliable repeat threat
  • Cheap to recast at 4 mana keeps the aggression flowing through commander tax
  • Pairs naturally with token swarms and anthem effects that Boros loves
  • Battalion rewards exactly what you want to do anyway—attack with a wide board

Weaknesses

  • No evasion or trample, so Tajic gets chump-blocked easily despite the +5/+5
  • Indestructible doesn't stop exile, -X/-X, edicts, or bounce
  • Boros lacks card advantage and ramp, so you can run out of gas
  • Vulnerable to fog, deterrence effects, and faster combo decks that ignore the board

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — Boros's premier card-draw engine; sacrifice your dying tokens to refill your hand.
  • Iroas, God of Victory — Makes your attackers indestructible and unblockable-by-two, perfectly enabling crowded Battalion swings.
  • Assemble the Legion — Generates an ever-growing army of tokens to keep meeting the three-attacker threshold.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Adds protection, evasion, and card draw to Tajic, turning the buffed body into a real threat.
  • Hour of Reckoning — A convoke-cheap board wipe that spares your tokens, resetting the game in your favor.

Upgrade Path

Add efficient mana rocks (Boros Signet, Arcane Signet) and card-advantage engines like Smothering Tithe, Mind's Eye, and Bag of Holding to fight Boros's natural card starvation. Prioritize evasion and overrun effects—Trumpet Blast, Master Warcraft, or extra-combat spells like Aggravated Assault—to convert your wide board into actual kills, and lean on Iroas and protective equipment to make Tajic an unblockable, unkillable finisher.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Alpha-strike with a buffed Battalion board and an anthem-pumped team
  • ▸Voltron Tajic to a 7/7+ with evasion equipment and connect repeatedly
  • ▸Overrun-style effects (Coat of Arms, anthems) push lethal combat damage across the board

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Battalion wants multiple bodies, and token generators reliably hit the three-attacker mark every turn.
  • Aggro Go-Wide — Tajic supports a fast, creature-heavy Boros beatdown built around anthems and alpha strikes.
  • Voltron — Indestructible plus +5/+5 lets you load equipment and auras onto a hard-to-kill carrier.
