BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever one or more noncreature permanents are returned to hand, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.

{X}{W}, Return a land you control to its owner's hand: Return target artifact or enchantment card with mana value X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. Activate only as a sorcery.

Guide

Gameplan

Tameshi is an artifact/enchantment-recursion engine in UW. You bounce your own noncreature permanents to draw cards each turn, then use Tameshi's activated ability to reanimate artifacts and enchantments from your graveyard while looping cheap bounce effects. The deck grinds card advantage, assembles value or lock pieces, and eventually wins through a recursion combo or an enchantment/artifact-fueled wincon.

Strengths

  • Repeatable card draw every turn from any noncreature bounce, including your own ETB-bounce effects
  • Cheats permanents back from the graveyard, dodging counterspells and turning removal into recursion
  • Strong synergy with land-bounce and self-bounce engines for value loops
  • UW gives premium control tools, board wipes, and protection

Weaknesses

  • Tameshi's draw is once per turn, so it's a slow grind, not explosive
  • Activated ability is sorcery-speed and taxes you a land each use, slowing development
  • Heavy reliance on the commander; repeated removal shuts down the engine
  • Color identity lacks ramp and big mana, making large-X reanimation hard

Key Cards

  • The Mirari Conjecture — A reanimatable enchantment that can be looped to copy spells and recur instants, a backbone combo piece with Tameshi.
  • Teferi's Ageless Insight — Doubles Tameshi's once-per-turn draw and amplifies every other card-draw effect.
  • Sevinne's Reclamation — Cheap recursion that returns Tameshi-targets and is flashbackable, deepening value loops.
  • Emeria's Call // Emeria, Shattered Skyclave — A modal land that feeds Tameshi's land-bounce cost while doubling as a payoff.
  • Solemnity — A reanimatable enchantment lock piece that pairs with persist/charge-counter combos.
  • Banishing Light — A flexible enchantment you can bounce and reanimate to repeatedly answer threats while triggering draws.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and rituals that fit UW (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Smothering Tithe) and more cheap bounce/recursion to fire Tameshi's draw every turn. Lean into a defined combo line—Mirari Conjecture loops or charge-counter locks with Solemnity—and add tutors like Enlightened Tutor and Idyllic Tutor to find them. Round out with strong protection (Swords to Plowshares, Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention analog Mother of Runes) to keep the commander online.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Grinding overwhelming card advantage and out-resourcing the table with a control shell
  • ▸Looping recursion enchantments (e.g. The Mirari Conjecture) into an infinite value or mill/burn combo
  • ▸Assembling a stax lock with reanimated enchantments and closing with an evasive threat or token engine
  • ▸Beating down with a resilient flyer or planeswalker ultimate once the board is stabilized

Archetypes

  • Artifact/Enchantment Value — Tameshi reanimates noncreature permanents and rewards bouncing them, turning every ETB and recursion into card advantage.
  • Control — UW board wipes, counters, and recurring removal enchantments let Tameshi grind opponents out.
  • Combo — Land-bounce loops with cheap permanents and copy/recursion enchantments can generate infinite value or lock the table.
  • Stax — Reanimating and rebuying lock enchantments creates inevitability while you draw ahead.
