BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever Tetzin or another double-faced artifact you control enters, mill three cards. You may put an artifact card from among them into your hand.

Craft with six artifacts {4} ({4}, Exile this artifact, Exile the six from among other permanents you control and/or cards from your graveyard: Return this card transformed under its owner's control. Craft only as a sorcery.)

Vigilance, trample

Whenever The Golden-Gear Colossus enters or attacks, transform up to one other target double-faced artifact you control. Create two 1/1 colorless Gnome artifact creature tokens.

Guide

Gameplan

Tetzin is an artifact-matters value engine that mills three and digs for artifacts each time it or another double-faced artifact (DFC) enters, building card advantage while assembling six artifacts to Craft into The Golden-Gear Colossus. The flipped Colossus is a 6/6 vigilance trampler that flips your other transforming DFCs, churns out Gnome tokens on entry and attack, and quickly closes games. You spend the early game flooding the board with cheap artifacts, then convert that mass into a beatdown or token swarm.

Strengths

  • Repeatable card advantage and graveyard filling via the mill-three-grab-an-artifact trigger
  • Cheap three-mana commander that's an artifact itself, enabling artifact synergies immediately
  • Craft gives a built-in late-game payoff that fills the graveyard for reanimation/recursion
  • Token generation from the Colossus side feeds go-wide and sacrifice strategies
  • Mardu colors offer strong removal, wraths, and recursion to back up the engine

Weaknesses

  • Self-mill can bin key nonland cards you wanted to draw
  • Relies on having artifacts/DFCs to maximize the enter trigger; weak draws stall it
  • Craft requires exiling six permanents/graveyard cards, a steep board investment
  • Commander is fragile and a removal target that resets your engine
  • Lacks built-in evasion or protection beyond the flipped side

Key Cards

  • Urza, Lord High Artificer — Turns your flood of artifacts into mana and provides a tutor/win engine alongside Tetzin's draws.
  • Goblin Engineer — Tutors artifacts to the graveyard and battlefield, fueling both the enter trigger and Craft fodder.
  • Krark-Clan Ironworks — Sacrifices artifacts for mana to power out Craft and explosive turns.
  • Daretti, Scrap Savant — Recurs artifacts milled by Tetzin and accelerates card filtering.
  • Goblin Welder — Cheats big artifacts into play and abuses graveyard artifacts from milling.
  • Inventors' Fair — Tutors any artifact and gains life when you control three or more.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and artifact-tutors (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Inventors' Fair, Whir of Invention) to find your best DFCs and engine pieces faster. Lean into a dedicated artifact combo line such as Krark-Clan Ironworks plus reanimation or Urza for explosive mana, and include graveyard payoffs like Goblin Welder and Daretti to convert milled cards into threats. Round out with efficient Mardu removal and a couple of protective pieces to keep Tetzin online.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with The Golden-Gear Colossus and a wide Gnome token board
  • ▸Assemble an artifact combo (Krark-Clan Ironworks, Urza, mana rocks) into a payoff
  • ▸Reanimate large artifact threats milled into the graveyard
  • ▸Aristocrat-style drain using sacrificed tokens and artifacts

Archetypes

  • Artifacts (Affinity/Value) — Every artifact ETB potentially triggers card advantage, and DFC artifacts double as engine pieces.
  • Reanimator/Recursion — Tetzin's mill fills the yard with artifacts you recur via Goblin Welder, Daretti, and similar.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — The Colossus side spits out Gnome tokens on entry and attack for swarm or sacrifice payoffs.
  • Aristocrats — Artifact and Gnome tokens become fodder for sacrifice outlets and drain effects.
