Thancred is a mono-white protection piece that shields your most important legendary permanent (another commander in a pile of legends, a key planeswalker, or a board-anchoring artifact/creature) with permanent indestructible while staying alive himself through noncreature-spell casting. You build a critical mass of legendary permanents and value engines, protect the linchpin, and grind out the game with white's superior board control and go-wide closers. Flash lets you deploy him reactively, holding up interaction and dropping the indestructible blanket at the perfect moment.
Lean into fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crest, Smothering Tithe) and cheap noncreature spells to reliably keep Thancred indestructible every turn. Add a compact combo line such as Heliod + Walking Ballista or a Voltron package with Swiftfoot Boots-style hexproof so removal must contend with both protection and indestructible. Round out with the best mono-white interaction and a few exile-proof finishers, since indestructible alone won't carry you against committed control decks.
