BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever The Boulder attacks, earthbend X, where X is the number of creatures you control with power 4 or greater. (Target land you control becomes a 0/0 creature with haste that's still a land. Put X +1/+1 counters on it. When it dies or is exiled, return it to the battlefield tapped.)

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with big creatures (power 4+), then attack with The Boulder to earthbend your lands into massive hasty creatures, swinging for enormous trampling damage. You ramp hard, deploy fatties, and turn your manabase into an army that recurs when destroyed. The deck snowballs counters and bodies until you can alpha-strike the table.

Strengths

  • Mono-green gives access to the best ramp and the biggest creatures in the format
  • Earthbent lands return when they die, making your attackers resilient to removal and board wipes
  • Scales naturally—more big creatures means a bigger earthbend each combat
  • Lands-as-creatures synergizes with +1/+1 counter and trample payoffs

Weaknesses

  • Earthbending lands taps them into combat, exposing your mana to board wipes and combat tricks
  • Mono-green struggles with interaction, card draw, and removing problematic permanents
  • Relies on attacking and connecting—stax, fog effects, and pillowfort can stall the plan
  • The Boulder must attack to provide value, and it's vulnerable to being killed before it generates counters

Key Cards

  • Hardened Scales — Multiplies every +1/+1 counter from earthbend, turning lands into game-ending threats.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles the counters placed by earthbend, instantly making a land a huge attacker.
  • Branching Evolution — Another counter doubler that supercharges each attack trigger.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Counts toward your power 4+ creatures and converts your wide board, including earthbent lands, into a lethal swing.
  • Cultivate — Ramps and fixes while filling the battlefield with lands you can later animate.
  • The Great Henge — Easy to cast with big creatures, providing the card draw and ramp mono-green needs.

Upgrade Path

Add counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Doubling Season, Branching Evolution) and trample enablers (Rancor, Nylea, God of the Hunt) to make earthbend lethal faster. Improve the manabase with ramp like Nature's Lore, Three Visits, and Cultivate so you have lands to animate and big creatures online early. Round out with green's best card advantage (Beast Whisperer, Guardian Project) and protection (Heroic Intervention, Snakeskin Veil) to keep your attack plan resilient.

Archetypes

  • Lands Matter — The commander turns lands into creatures, rewarding extra-lands and land recursion themes.
