BuildCard details

The Commander

When you cast this spell, reveal the top fourteen cards of your library. Put all Doctor cards revealed this way into your graveyard and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

You may have The Fourteenth Doctor enter as a copy of a Doctor card in your graveyard that was put there from your library this turn. If you do, it gains haste until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast The Fourteenth Doctor to dig 14 cards deep, mill any Doctors into your graveyard, then have her enter as a copy of one of those Doctors with haste—effectively letting you 'tutor' the best Doctor for the situation and play it ahead of curve. Pair her with a Companion (she has the Doctor's Companion ability) for a two-card command zone, then leverage time counters, suspend, and clone synergies to grind value and snowball into a powerful build-around board.

Strengths

  • Acts as a flexible toolbox: each cast can become the best Doctor in your graveyard for the current board state
  • Built-in card selection and self-mill that fuels graveyard and Doctor-tribal payoffs
  • Cheap mana value (3) plus haste on the copy means fast, impactful plays
  • Four colors (GRWU) gives access to nearly the whole format's best removal, ramp, and value engines
  • The Doctor's Companion mechanic gives you a free partner, effectively a 100-card deck with two commanders

Weaknesses

  • Highly variable—if no Doctors are revealed, you get a vanilla 3-drop legend with no body upgrade
  • Leans on a tribe that has limited deep options compared to mainstream creature types
  • Relies on having strong Doctors already in the deck and milled, creating consistency swings
  • Becoming a copy means it carries the legend rule and that Doctor's printed stats, which can be small or removal-prone
  • No black access shuts off many of the best tutors and reanimation tools

Key Cards

  • The Tenth Doctor — A premium clone target that exiles and replays cards with time counters, generating huge tempo and card advantage.
  • The Eleventh Doctor — Strong Doctor whose suspend and time-counter synergies pair perfectly with the Fourteenth's recursion engine.
  • The First Doctor — Provides extra card draw and time-counter manipulation, making it a high-value body to copy.
  • The Thirteenth Doctor — Lets you stack and proliferate time counters, accelerating suspended spells across your whole deck.
  • Sakashima of a Thousand Faces — Sidesteps the legend rule and clone synergy, letting you keep multiple copies of your best Doctors in play.
  • Vorel of the Hull Clade — Doubles time and other counters to instantly resolve suspended spells and supercharge Doctor effects.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the curve with the strongest available Doctors so every mill yields a worthwhile clone target, and add counter-doublers like Doubling Season and Vorel plus proliferate effects to make time counters lethal. Lean on the Doctor's Companion slot with a value-oriented partner, and shore up consistency with green and blue ramp, card draw, and interaction so you reliably hit the late-game Doctors that win the game.

Archetypes

  • Suspend / Time Counters — Many Doctors interact with time counters, and proliferate plus counter-doubling turns suspend into a value engine.
