BuildCard details

The Commander

Flying

When The Master of Keys enters, put X +1/+1 counters on it and mill twice X cards.

Each enchantment card in your graveyard has escape. The escape cost is equal to the card's mana cost plus exile three other cards from your graveyard. (You may cast cards from your graveyard for their escape cost.)

Guide

Gameplan

Self-mill aggressively to fill your graveyard, then grind out value by recasting enchantments from the yard via escape. The Master of Keys is both your mill engine (X counters/mill 2X on entry) and your recursion enabler, letting you reuse powerful enchantments, sagas, and removal auras endlessly while building an Esper enchantment-matters board.

Strengths

  • Built-in card advantage engine—every enchantment in your graveyard becomes recurring fuel via escape.
  • Esper colors give access to the best removal, counters, tutors, and self-mill in the format.
  • Recasting Sagas re-triggers their chapter abilities, generating repeated value.
  • Cheap commander (MV 3) that can re-enter with more counters after self-mill grows your yard.

Weaknesses

  • Graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog) shuts off the entire escape package.
  • Mass enchantment removal hits your board hard and you have less recursion for non-enchantments.
  • Escape competes for graveyard fuel—exiling three cards each cast drains resources fast.
  • Can be slow and engine-dependent without a fast clock or combo finish.

Key Cards

  • Doom Foretold — A recurring enchantment that grinds opponents out and can be recast from the yard via the escape it grants.
  • The Eldest Reborn — A Saga reanimator/removal piece whose chapters all re-trigger every time you escape it back.
  • Starfield of Nyx — Doubles down on enchantment recursion and turns your reanimated enchantments into a swarm of threats.
  • Hatching Plans — Cheap card draw that you can sacrifice and recast repeatedly with escape for steady advantage.
  • Underworld Breach — Stacks with escape to deeply abuse your graveyard and enables explosive turns or combos.
  • Idol of Oblivion — Enchantment-friendly draw engine that refills your hand off tokens and stays recoverable.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into self-mill (Mesmeric Orb, Hedron Crab, Stitcher's Supplier) to fuel both the commander's counters and a deep escape toolbox. Add high-impact enchantments worth recasting—removal Auras, Sagas, and draw engines like Mystic Remora—plus enchantment-doublers and Underworld Breach lines for a faster, more deterministic finish. Round out with strong Esper interaction and tutors (Enlightened Tutor, Demonic Tutor) to assemble your engines and protect them from graveyard hate.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with an oversized flying commander backed by enchantment-buff payoffs.
  • ▸Grind opponents out with recurring Doom Foretold / Oppression-style enchantment lock pieces.
  • ▸Assemble Underworld Breach combos to generate infinite value or storm out a finisher.
  • ▸Overwhelm with Starfield of Nyx animating a wide board of reanimated enchantments.

Archetypes

  • Enchantress — The commander turns enchantments into reusable resources, rewarding a high enchantment density and draw-on-cast payoffs.
  • Reanimator/Self-Mill — Milling 2X on entry and granting escape lets you bin and recur powerful enchantments at will.
  • Sagas Value — Escape re-triggers every Saga chapter, making one-shot Sagas into repeatable engines.
  • Control — Esper colors plus recurring removal enchantments let you grind and stabilize before closing the game.
