The Commander

Flying

Lands on the battlefield and land cards in graveyards can't be the targets of spells or abilities your opponents control.

Your opponents can't play land cards from graveyards.

Guide

Gameplan

Tomik is a mono-white aggro/value commander that protects your lands while punishing greedy ramp and lands strategies. You curve out with efficient white creatures and equipment, beat down in the air, and lean on white's modern toolbox of card advantage and stax to grind opponents out.

Strengths

  • Cheap two-mana flier that pressures life totals early
  • Hard-locks opposing land recursion (Crucible, Ramunap Excavator, Life from the Loam)
  • Mono-white means consistent mana and access to cheap removal/wraths
  • Naturally protects your own Strip Mine/Wasteland/fetch engine from interaction

Weaknesses

  • Weak card advantage relative to other colors despite recent printings
  • Static ability is narrow and irrelevant in many pods
  • Small body dies to nearly any removal or board wipe
  • No built-in ramp or recursion; can stall on resources

Key Cards

  • Strip Mine — With Crucible effects Tomik shields your land destruction engine from being interacted with.
  • Crucible of Worlds — Lets you recur lands to grind opponents while Tomik denies them the same.
  • Smothering Tithe — Premier mono-white ramp/value engine to fuel a fast white deck.
  • Skullclamp — Solves white's card-draw problem in token and aggro builds.
  • Archon of Emeria — Pairs with Tomik's hatebear plan to slow ramp and extra-land decks.

Upgrade Path

Add the white power pieces—Smothering Tithe, Mana Tithe, Swords to Plowshares, and fast mana like Mana Crypt and Sol Ring—then build the Strip Mine plus Crucible of Worlds/Ramunap Excavator soft-lock that Tomik uniquely protects. Layer in stax pieces (Winter Orb, Thalia, Static Orb) and efficient threats so your land denial translates into a clock before the table stabilizes.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Equipment/Voltron beats through the air with Tomik
  • ▸Go-wide token swarm backed by anthems
  • ▸Grinding opponents out under stax and land denial then attacking with creatures

Archetypes

  • Stax/Hatebear — Tomik's land-denial static slots into a taxing, resource-denial shell with Winter Orb and land destruction.
  • Aggro/Voltron — A cheap evasive flier is a fine equipment carrier to close games with combat damage.
  • Tokens — Mono-white go-wide with anthems leverages Tomik as an early threat and Skullclamp fuel.
