BuildCard details

The Commander

{1}{R}, Sacrifice another creature: Tymaret deals 2 damage to target player or planeswalker.

{1}{B}, Sacrifice a creature: Return this card from your graveyard to your hand.

Guide

Gameplan

Tymaret is an Aristocrats engine that grinds opponents down by sacrificing creatures for direct damage. You flood the board with cheap, expendable tokens and recursive bodies, then channel them through sacrifice outlets and death triggers for incremental damage and value. Tymaret himself acts as a built-in sac outlet that deals 2 to a player and recurs himself from the grave, making him a relentless, hard-to-remove finisher.

Strengths

  • Commander is a resilient, recurring sacrifice outlet and damage source that's only 2 mana
  • Excellent in Rakdos's deep aristocrats/sacrifice toolbox with strong removal and recursion
  • Cheap commander means easy to recast and abuse repeatedly
  • Punishes board wipes by turning your own dying creatures into reach

Weaknesses

  • Tymaret's damage output is slow and mana-intensive without payoff engines
  • Two colors limits ramp and fixing compared to wider decks
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate, which shuts off recursion and sac fodder loops
  • Needs a steady stream of creatures—runs dry against efficient creature removal and stax

Key Cards

  • Blood Artist — Drains every opponent each time a creature dies while you sacrifice fodder, converting Tymaret's outlet into life loss for the table.
  • Zulaport Cutthroat — Stacks with Blood Artist effects so each sacrifice drains all opponents, building a real aristocrats win.
  • Bastion of Remembrance — An enchantment version of the drain effect that's harder to remove and stacks the death-trigger plan.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Generates Treasure on every creature death, fueling Tymaret's mana-hungry sacrifice ability and explosive turns.
  • Mayhem Devil — Pings any player whenever a creature dies or a Treasure is sacrificed, turning every sac into extra damage.
  • Ophiomancer — Produces a free Snake token each turn for endless sacrifice fodder.
  • Dictate of Erebos — Forces opponents to sacrifice creatures whenever yours die, acting as repeatable board control.

Upgrade Path

Add free or near-free sac outlets and Treasure engines (Pitiless Plunderer, Goldspan Dragon) to enable infinite loops with persist creatures like Murderous Redcap or Kalonian Hydra-style combos. Tighten the curve with more cheap token producers and stack multiple drain payoffs so any sacrifice loop becomes lethal. Improve fixing and ramp with Rakdos Signet, Fellwar Stone, and fast mana like Jeska's Will to accelerate your engine and protect against graveyard hate with redundancy.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Bastion of Remembrance
  • ▸Repeatedly pinging players with Tymaret and Mayhem Devil for direct damage
  • ▸Infinite sacrifice loops (e.g., persist creatures plus a death-payoff) for unbounded drain
  • ▸Grinding the board empty with Dictate of Erebos effects then closing with attackers

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Tymaret is a self-recurring sac outlet that pairs with death-trigger payoffs to drain the table.
  • Tokens — Cheap token generators provide endless fodder to feed his sacrifice abilities.
  • Reanimator — Black recursion and his own self-return let you repeatedly loop creatures back for value and sacrifice.
  • Stax — Edict and forced-sacrifice effects pair with his outlet to grind opponents off the board.
