BuildCard details

The Commander

Flying

Whenever Vaevictis Asmadi attacks, for each player, choose target permanent that player controls. Those players sacrifice those permanents. Each player who sacrificed a permanent this way reveals the top card of their library, then puts it onto the battlefield if it's a permanent card.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Vaevictis Asmadi, then attack each turn to force every player (including you) to sacrifice a chosen permanent and flip the top of their library into play. You weaponize the symmetry by stacking your library with bombs and your opponents' losses with their best permanents, grinding out card and board advantage until you overwhelm the table.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, evasive removal that ignores indestructible, hexproof, and protection by forcing sacrifice
  • Generates massive card advantage by cheating permanents into play off the top of your library
  • Punishes commanders and key value engines—opponents lose permanents every combat
  • Jund colors give access to the best ramp, removal, and recursion in the format

Weaknesses

  • The flip is random for you too, so you can lose your own bombs or whiff into a land
  • Six mana and dies to spot removal before it can attack, resetting your engine
  • No built-in evasion beyond flying makes it blockable by fliers or deterrents
  • Symmetrical sacrifice can accelerate opponents into their own threats off the flip
  • Requires combat to function, so Fog effects and pillow-fort cards shut it down

Key Cards

  • Scroll Rack — Lets you set up the top of your library so Vaevictis flips exactly the bomb you want into play.
  • Sylvan Library — Top-deck manipulation plus draw ensures your forced flips hit high-impact permanents.
  • Worldly Tutor — Puts any creature on top of your library to guarantee a devastating attack-trigger flip.
  • Mindslicer — Sacrificing it empties hands, turning Vaevictis into a brutal lock that favors your battlefield resources.
  • Goldspan Dragon — An evasive payoff you'll happily flip into play, and ramp to recast Vaevictis after removal.
  • Krark-Clan Ironworks — With token fodder you control what you sacrifice while opponents lose real permanents.

Upgrade Path

Add top-of-library control (Scroll Rack, Sensei's Divining Top, Brainstorm, Vampiric Tutor) so your flips are never random, and run cheap sac fodder like Treasure and creature tokens so you always sacrifice something worthless while opponents lose real cards. Lean into protection (Lightning Greaves, Heroic Intervention) and fast ramp (Sol Ring, Dockside Extortionist) to deploy Vaevictis early and keep attacking; for higher power, fold in a tighter Aristocrats package or a reanimation backup to win without relying solely on combat.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Grinding the table out of resources with repeated forced sacrifice, then attacking with Vaevictis and flipped threats
  • ▸Flipping fatties like Goldspan Dragon or other big fliers into play to close fast
  • ▸Aristocrats payoffs (Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat) draining life as the board sacrifices each turn
  • ▸Assembling a stax lock so opponents cannot recover before your evasive damage finishes them

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — You're sacrificing permanents every combat, so death triggers and sac fodder turn forced loss into value.
  • Reanimator/Cheat — Putting permanents directly into play lets you ramp into huge creatures off the top of your deck.
  • Stax — Repeatedly stripping opponents' lands, mana rocks, and engines while protecting your own grinds the table down.
  • Control — Evasive recurring removal plus card advantage lets you dismantle threats and win the long game.
