The Commander

Trample, haste

If you would put one or more counters on a permanent or player, put twice that many of each of those kinds of counters on that permanent or player instead.

If an opponent would put one or more counters on a permanent or player, they put half that many of each of those kinds of counters on that permanent or player instead, rounded down.

Guide

Gameplan

Vorinclex doubles all counters you place while halving (rounded down) what your opponents place, warping any counter-centric strategy in your favor. Ramp into Vorinclex by turn 5-6, then snowball +1/+1 counters, planeswalker loyalty, charge counters, and proliferate effects into overwhelming advantages. Win by going wide/tall with massive counter creatures or comboing off doubled counter engines while your opponents' planeswalkers and counter strategies collapse.

Strengths

  • Symmetrical-looking ability that is wildly one-sided: your counters double while opponents' counters halve
  • Mono-green gives access to the best ramp and proliferate package in the format
  • Comes with trample and haste, so it can attack immediately and pressure boards
  • Supercharges planeswalkers, +1/+1 counter payoffs, and any -counter-based engine
  • Crippling against opponents relying on counters, planeswalkers, or saga/charge effects

Weaknesses

  • Six mana and dies to any removal, with mono-green offering weak protection and no recursion in-color
  • Doesn't directly win the game—needs a counter-based payoff package to convert advantage
  • Mono-green lacks interaction; vulnerable to combo and control decks that ignore the board
  • Halving only hurts opponents who actually use counters; against many decks the downside ability is dead
  • Counter doublers are a known target and Vorinclex paints a bullseye on you

Key Cards

  • Doubling Season — Stacks multiplicatively with Vorinclex to quadruple token and counter generation.
  • The Ozolith — Hoards counters and redeploys them, doubled by Vorinclex for explosive single-creature growth.
  • Hardened Scales — Cheap counter multiplier that compounds with Vorinclex on every +1/+1 counter placement.
  • Inexorable Tide — Proliferate every spell, with each counter added doubled by Vorinclex.
  • Walking Ballista — Enters with doubled counters and machine-guns the table for a clean win.
  • Branching Evolution — Another +1/+1 counter doubler that multiplies with Vorinclex for absurd creature sizes.
  • Heroic Intervention — Essential protection to keep Vorinclex and your counter board safe from wraths and removal.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Carpet of Flowers, early dorks) to land Vorinclex on turn 3-4, and layer in stacking counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Doubling Season) for exponential output. Tighten the deck around a deterministic combo finish—Walking Ballista, Devoted Druid + Quillspike, or Sage of Hours—and pack mono-green protection like Heroic Intervention, Veil of Summer, and Snakeskin Veil. Trim slow value cards for proliferate enablers and a strong removal/ramp curve to close games before the table answers your engine.
