The Commander

Trample

Whenever you tap a land for mana, add one mana of any type that land produced.

Whenever an opponent taps a land for mana, that land doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.

Guide

Gameplan

Ramp aggressively into Vorinclex by turn 5-6, then double all your land mana while locking opponents' lands tapped to grind their resources to zero. Use the explosive mana to cast huge X-spells, big eldrazi, or chain expensive threats faster than anyone can respond, while the stax half buys time.

Strengths

  • Effectively doubles all your land-based mana, enabling absurd plays
  • Powerful asymmetric land-lock that strangles opponents' development
  • 8/8 trample body that pressures life totals on its own
  • Synergizes with every land-untap and mana-doubling effect

Weaknesses

  • Mono-green struggles for interaction and removal
  • 8 mana commander is a huge investment and removal magnet
  • No built-in card advantage or protection
  • Stax effect paints a target and invites the table to gang up on you

Key Cards

  • Nyxbloom Ancient — Stacks with Vorinclex to triple-and-double your land mana for truly explosive turns.
  • Cabal Coffers — With Vorinclex it produces double black mana that scales obscenely, fueling X-spells.
  • Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx — Massive green devotion payout that doubles into game-ending mana under Vorinclex.
  • Genesis Wave — A huge X-spell that dumps your library onto the battlefield using the doubled mana.
  • Heroic Intervention — Cheap protection to keep your expensive commander safe from board wipes and removal.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana rocks and ritual-style ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Carpet of Flowers) to land Vorinclex earlier, then lean into mana doublers like Mana Reflection and untappers such as Vorinclex's combo with Staff of Domination or Argothian Elder for infinite mana. Round out with protection (Heroic Intervention, Snakeskin Veil) and tutors (Green Sun's Zenith, Worldly Tutor) to assemble your finisher consistently.

Archetypes
