Chimil, the Inner Sun

Legendary Artifact

LegalRank #820

Spells you control can't be countered.

At the beginning of your end step, discover 5. (Exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card with mana value 5 or less. Cast it without paying its mana cost or put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom in a random order.)

Why is this card good?

Chimil is a colorless powerhouse that slots into virtually any deck thanks to its generic cost and zero color requirements. The real draw is the recurring discover 5 every end step — that's free card advantage every single turn, often cascading into a free spell. Over a game, this snowballs hard, and unlike one-shot value engines it keeps paying off. The anti-counter clause is mostly upside, protecting your key spells in a format full of interaction. Who wants it: Big-mana ramp decks, Eldrazi/colorless shells, and any deck that can reliably hit 6 mana and wants raw value. It's particularly good in decks light on card draw or in colors (like mono-white) that struggle for advantage. Stax and control decks appreciate the uncounterable clause too. When to skip it: Low-curve aggro or aristocrats decks where most spells cost more than 5 (discover whiffs into hand). Fast combo decks would rather run a tutor or protection piece that affects the board now rather than a slow value rock.

Chimil, the Inner Sun's first ability applies only while it's on the battlefield. While it's a spell, it can be countered.

A spell or ability that counters spells can still target spells that can't be countered. When that spell or ability resolves, the uncounterable spell won't be countered, but any additional effects of the countering spell or ability will still happen.
