Why is this card good?

Dread Return is a premier reanimation spell that pulls double duty: hardcast it for four mana, or flashback it from the graveyard for free by sacrificing three creatures. That flashback cost is the whole point. In aristocrats and combo decks, those three sacrifices aren't a downside—they're a feature. Sacrificing tokens (from Bitterblossom, Pawn of Ulamog, etc.) to reanimate a payoff triggers death effects all along the way, and you get the spell "for free" mana-wise. It's a staple in graveyard combos where you mill or discard the deck and need to reanimate a finisher like a value engine or alt-win creature. Commanders like Meren, Karador, Chatterfang, and any token/sac engine love it. It's also a backup reanimation effect in lower-power graveyard decks. Don't play it if you're not generating expendable creatures—paying four mana to reanimate one thing is mediocre, and the flashback is dead without fodder. It's a build-around, not a generic Reanimate substitute.
