Finale of Devastation

{X}{G}{G}

Sorcery

Legal Salt 1.13Rank #327

Search your library and/or graveyard for a creature card with mana value X or less and put it onto the battlefield. If you search your library this way, shuffle. If X is 10 or more, creatures you control get +X/+X and gain haste until end of turn.

Why is this card good?

Finale of Devastation is one of green's premier tutors precisely because it cheats the creature directly onto the battlefield — no casting cost, no waiting. It also pulls from your graveyard, making it flexible insurance against discard, mill, or reanimation strategies. The key upside over Chord of Calling or Green Sun's Zenith is its game-ending late-game ceiling: at X=10+, you tutor a haste-y creature and give your whole board +10/+10 with haste. In a token, +1/+1 counter, or go-wide creature deck, that's lethal out of nowhere — a one-card Overrun plus a bomb. Decks that want it: any green creature-heavy build with mana acceleration — Stompy, tokens (think Ghave, Trostani), elf ramp, or combo decks that need to find a specific piece (e.g., tutoring up an infinite engine creature). Skip it in decks light on creatures, low on ramp (the X+GG cost is steep), or where you'll never realistically reach the X=10 mode — cheaper tutors serve you better there.

    If a creature card in your library or graveyard has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.

  • 2019-05-03

    If X is 10 or more, the creature card you just put onto the battlefield will get +X/+X and haste.

  • 2019-05-03

    No player may take action between the time you reveal which creature card you'll put onto the battlefield and the time it gets +X/+X and haste if X is 10 or more. Any abilities that trigger as it enters the battlefield will be put onto the stack after your creatures get +X/+X and haste.

    If you don't find a creature card with mana value X or less, creatures you control still get +X/+X and gain haste if X is 10 or more.
