Why is this card good?
Imperial Recruiter is one of the best tutors red has access to, and crucially it's a creature tutor that can fetch a huge swath of impactful pieces — most combo and utility creatures have power 2 or less. That makes it both flexible and abusable.
Where it shines: Any deck that can recur or blink it (Yawgmoth, aristocrats, Kiki/Tibalt reanimator shells) turns it into a repeatable toolbox. It's a staple in red combo decks, grabbing pieces like Kiki-Jiki's targets, Dockside Extortionist, mana dorks, or stax creatures like Magus effects. Tokens and sacrifice decks love that it leaves a body to fling or recur.
Best in: cEDH and high-power red decks, especially with recursion or sac outlets. Voltron and goodstuff decks appreciate the consistency too.
When to skip it: lower-power tables without a strong creature to fetch — it's only as good as your best ≤2-power target. If your deck doesn't lean on creatures, a broader tutor serves better.
