Why is this card good?
Patchwork Banner is a quietly excellent payoff for any dedicated tribal deck, doing two jobs at once: it's a colorless anthem and a mana rock that fixes any color.
That dual function is the key. Most anthems do nothing for your mana, and most rocks do nothing for your board. Banner pays the same and gives you both, which is huge value in three-color or more tribal builds (Slivers, Elves, Goblins, Dragons, Merfolk, etc.) where fixing and going wide both matter.
Who wants it: Any go-wide creature-type deck — especially color-hungry ones like five-color Slivers/Changelings or Edgar Markov Vampires. The +1/+1 scales with your token/creature count, and the ramp helps you cast your commander and payoffs on curve.
When to skip it: Non-tribal decks, since the anthem locks to one type. It's also weaker in mono-color decks that don't need fixing — a plain anthem or rock often does its single job better. You want the combination to be relevant.
