Three Tree City

Legendary Land

LegalRank #184

As Three Tree City enters, choose a creature type.

{T}: Add {C}.

{2}, {T}: Choose a color. Add an amount of mana of that color equal to the number of creatures you control of the chosen type.

Why is this card good?

Three Tree City is a premium land for any tribal deck. It always taps for colorless, so even in the worst case it's never a dead draw — that baseline reliability is what separates it from clunky "build-around" lands. The real payoff is the second ability: in a developed tribal board, {2} can turn into 5, 8, or more mana of any color. That makes it both a ramp engine and a fixer, which is huge for tribal decks that are often awkwardly color-restricted (think Slivers, Dragons, Elves, Goblins, Vampires, Merfolk). It's especially nasty with go-wide token tribes or anthem-heavy lists that flood the board. Decks that want it: any creature-type-centric commander — Edgar Markov, Jodah/Ur-Dragon, Ezuri Elves, Wilhelt Zombies, etc. It also enables explosive turns alongside big X spells or activated abilities. When to skip it: decks without a meaningful creature-type theme. There, it's just a colorless tapland and you're better off with a real dual or utility land.

To choose a creature type, you must choose an existing creature type, such as Lizard or Wizard. You can’t choose multiple creature types, such as “Lizard Wizard.” Card types such as artifact can’t be chosen, nor can subtypes that aren’t creature types, such as Jace, Vehicle, or Treasure.
