BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever Curie deals combat damage to a player, draw cards equal to its base power.

{1}{U}, Exile another nontoken artifact creature you control: Curie becomes a copy of the exiled creature, except it has "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, draw cards equal to its base power."

Guide

Gameplan

Curie is a mono-blue artifact-creature toolbox: she copies your beefiest nontoken artifact creature, gains the draw trigger, then connects in combat to refill your hand off her new base power. Turn to turn you ramp into artifact creatures, protect Curie, then transform her into a heavy hitter (or a value engine) and bury the table in card advantage while clocking opponents.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, color-bypassing card draw that scales with whatever creature you copy
  • Cheap 2-mana commander that's easy to recast and slots into any artifact shell
  • Mono-blue gives unmatched access to counterspells, protection, and untap/extra-combat tricks
  • Copy ability is flexible—grab evasion, ETBs, or sheer power depending on the board

Weaknesses

  • Curie's own base power is low, so she needs an artifact creature to copy before she does anything
  • Requires connecting in combat, leaving her vulnerable to removal, blockers, and board wipes
  • Wants to exile your own creatures, which can shrink your board for a glass-cannon plan
  • Mono-color means no built-in removal for big problem permanents outside of bounce

Key Cards

  • Phyrexian Metamorph — A cheap clone that becomes a high-power artifact creature for Curie to copy and weaponize.
  • Wurmcoil Engine — Copying it gives Curie 6 power for huge draws plus lifelink and deathtouch resilience.
  • Blightsteel Colossus — Copy it to draw a massive hand and threaten infect kills if it connects.
  • Aetherflux Reservoir — Massive card draw fuels lifegain and a storm-style life-loss finisher.
  • Whir of Invention — Tutors the exact artifact creature you need to copy at instant speed.
  • Thassa, Deep-Dwelling — Gives Curie evasion to ensure combat damage and blinks artifact creatures for value.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the curve with fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault) and tutors like Whir of Invention and Tezzeret the Seeker to assemble your best copy targets reliably. Add evasion and protection—Aqueous Form, swiftfoot/whispersilk effects, and free counters like Force of Negation—so Curie connects and survives. Lean into a deterministic finish with Aetherflux Reservoir plus cantrips, or a Thassa's Oracle line, to convert your overwhelming card advantage into actual wins.

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Copy a large artifact creature and beat down while drawing into more answers and threats
  • ▸Aetherflux Reservoir burst kill fueled by Curie's relentless card draw
  • ▸Deck out or empty hand into Thassa's Oracle / Laboratory Maniac for a self-mill win
  • ▸Infect kill by copying Blightsteel Colossus and connecting once

Archetypes

  • Artifacts / Big Mana — She rewards stuffing the deck with powerful artifact creatures and ramp to copy and recast them.
  • Card-Advantage Control — Mono-blue counters and the draw engine let you control the game while refueling endlessly.
  • Voltron / Beatdown — Copying a giant artifact and adding evasion turns Curie into a one-creature win plan.
  • Combo — Overflowing card draw enables Aetherflux Reservoir, Laboratory Maniac, or storm-style finishes.
