Why is this card good?
Sol Ring is the single best card in Commander, full stop. It's a one-mana rock that taps for two, netting you a mana the turn you play it and accelerating you a full turn ahead of the table from there. No other ramp piece in the format offers this rate, which is why it sits at #1 on EDHREC and appears in virtually every precon.
The colorless mana doesn't even matter — turn-one Sol Ring lets you cast your three-drop on turn two, snowballing into broken starts. Every archetype wants it: ramp, combo, stax, tokens, control, aggro. There is no deckbuilding reason to leave it out.
The only "downside" is variance — Sol Ring starts contribute disproportionately to wins, which some pods find unfun. Don't play it only if your playgroup has explicitly banned it (a real "house rule" in many casual circles) or you're chasing a lower-power, fairer game. Otherwise, it's an auto-include in 100% of decks.
