The Commander

Double strike

Whenever Giott or another Dwarf you control enters and whenever an Equipment you control enters, you may discard a card. If you do, draw a card.

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with Dwarves and Equipment to trigger Giott's rummaging, smoothing draws while building a wide, equipped army. You win by going aggressive and wide with cheap Dwarf tokens and bodies, suiting them up with Equipment for explosive combat damage, with Giott himself a 2-mana double-striker that's a real beater once equipped. Each turn you cheaply deploy creatures and gear, loot away dead cards, and swing.

Strengths

  • Two-mana commander with double strike that scales hard with any Equipment
  • Constant card filtering keeps your hand flowing and digs to key pieces
  • Cheap to recast and hard to keep down due to low mana value
  • Synergizes with both go-wide token and Voltron equipment plans

Weaknesses

  • Card filtering is rummaging, not raw card advantage—you can run out of gas
  • Boros lacks ramp and recursion, so board wipes hurt badly
  • Dwarf tribal support is thin compared to other tribes
  • Triggers require a discard-to-draw choice; clogged hands can stall value

Key Cards

  • Sram, Senior Edificer — Adds true card draw off every Equipment cast, complementing Giott's rummaging.
  • Puresteel Paladin — Free Equipment equips and card draw let you chain triggers explosively.
  • Magda, Brazen Outlaw — Turns your Dwarves into Treasure-makers for ramp and fetches artifacts/dragons.
  • Sigarda's Aid — Flash Equipment in and auto-attach, ambushing blockers and firing Giott triggers.
  • Embercleave — With double strike and a wide board it deals lethal commander damage out of nowhere.

Upgrade Path

Lean into a Voltron core with cheap impactful Equipment (Skullclamp, Lightning Greaves, Colossus Hammer) and protection like Swiftfoot Boots to make Giott resilient. Add card-draw engines (Sram, Puresteel Paladin) so your triggers generate net advantage rather than mere filtering, and include Magda plus Treasure synergies for ramp into bombs. Round out with anthems and haste enablers to convert your wide board into faster, more lethal attacks.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage with an equipped, double-striking Giott
  • ▸Wide Dwarf army buffed by Equipment and anthems for a big alpha strike
  • ▸Embercleave or similar finishers for surprise lethal swings

Archetypes

  • Equipment Voltron — Double strike doubles every Equipment bonus, making Giott a one-shot commander damage threat.
  • Dwarf Tribal Aggro — Each Dwarf entering loots, rewarding a wide, cheap creature curve.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Dwarf token producers feed both triggers and a swarm of equippable bodies.
