BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever Jorn attacks, untap each snow permanent you control.

{T}: You may play target snow permanent card from your graveyard this turn. If you do, it enters tapped.

Guide

Gameplan

Jorn is a snow-matters ramp and value engine. Flood the board with snow permanents (especially snow lands and snow mana rocks), then untap them all each time Jorn attacks to generate explosive amounts of mana and trigger snow payoffs. Use Kaldring on the back to recur snow permanents from your graveyard, grinding out incremental advantage until you assemble a big mana payoff or combo finish.

Strengths

  • Doubles as a mana doubler: untapping all snow lands/rocks on attack produces huge surges for X-spells and big payoffs.
  • Kaldring gives built-in recursion of snow permanents, making the commander resilient and grindy.
  • Snow gives access to powerful color-fixing and uniquely strong snow cards (Marit Lage, Coldsteel Heart, etc.) in deep BUG colors.
  • Cheap 3-mana body that's hard to answer permanently thanks to the flip side.
  • Untap effect enables tap-abilities (mana dorks, snow rocks, creature tap engines) twice per turn.

Weaknesses

  • Needs Jorn to connect in combat to get the big untap payoff, so it's vulnerable to chump blockers, flyers, and removal.
  • Heavy reliance on snow permanents means a slow start if you don't draw your snow ramp early.
  • Mana surge does little without strong mana sinks—can fizzle into wasted resources.
  • No evasion or protection on the commander itself.
  • Snow synergy can be parasitic; off-theme cards dilute the engine.

Key Cards

  • Dark Depths — A premier snow payoff—combo with Thespian's Stage or counter removal to make a 20/20 indestructible Marit Lage.
  • Thespian's Stage — Copies Dark Depths to instantly create Marit Lage, and untaps with Jorn for repeated value.
  • Coldsteel Heart — Snow mana rock that fixes colors and gets untapped/recurred, fueling the big-mana plan.
  • Search for Glory — Tutors any snow permanent—commander pieces, Dark Depths, or key payoffs—straight to hand.
  • Marit Lage's Slumber — A snow-permanent-count payoff that gives a 20/20 flyer, a perfect mana sink for your snow engine.
  • Reflections of Littjara — Doubles your snow-matters and ramp creatures' ETBs for a snowball value engine.
  • Blood on the Snow — Snow-themed wrath that also reanimates, giving control and recursion in one card.
  • Into the North — Cheap snow-land ramp that fixes and fuels Jorn's untap surge.

Upgrade Path

Add the Dark Depths + Thespian's Stage/Vampire Hexmage combo for a fast, compact win, and stuff the deck with high-impact snow mana sources (Coldsteel Heart, snow basics, Into the North, Boreal Druid). Lean into mana sinks like Torment of Hailfire and Marit Lage's Slumber so the untap surge always converts to a win, and include tutors (Search for Glory, Demonic/Vampiric Tutor) plus protection for Jorn to ensure your engine comes online consistently.
