Living Death

{3}{B}{B}

Sorcery

LegalBoard WipeRank #477

Each player exiles all creature cards from their graveyard, then sacrifices all creatures they control, then puts all cards they exiled this way onto the battlefield.

Why is this card good?

Living Death is a symmetrical mass-reanimation spell that doubles as a board wipe, and that flexibility is exactly why it's a black staple. The trick is sequencing your graveyard. If you've been dumping fat creatures into your yard while keeping an empty or expendable board, Living Death is a one-card combo: you sac your weenies and tokens, then return an army of bombs. It's devastating after an opponent's wrath, turning a "loss" into your best turn. - Reanimator/midrange decks (Meren, Kels, Gisa) love it as a mass-recursion engine. - Aristocrats abuse the sacrifice trigger — sac creatures with death payoffs, then reanimate more. - Great with self-mill and recursive ETB value creatures. Beware the symmetry: if opponents have stacked graveyards, you can hand them a bigger army than yours. Time it after exiling their key targets, or pair with graveyard hate. Don't run it in decks that don't actively fill their yard — it's a dead card without setup, and {3}{B}{B} for a wrath that helps everyone is a blowout waiting to happen.
