BuildCard details

The Commander

Partner with Rory Williams (When this creature enters, target player may put Rory into their hand from their library, then shuffle.)

Whenever Amy Pond deals combat damage to a player, choose a suspended card you own and remove that many time counters from it.

Doctor's companion (You can have two commanders if the other is the Doctor.)

Guide

Gameplan

Amy Pond is a mono-red suspend-matters commander who turns combat damage into accelerated payoffs. You suspend big spells cheaply, then connect with Amy to strip time counters and cast them ahead of schedule. The deck plays as an aggressive tempo build that snowballs free or discounted spells off attacks.

Strengths

  • Effectively cheats expensive spells into play early by removing time counters via combat damage
  • Partner with Rory gives a low-cost, free aggressive body and card consistency
  • Mono-red keeps the manabase clean and ramp/rituals plentiful for suspend payoffs
  • Synergizes with cascade and rebound, which share the temporal/spell-velocity theme

Weaknesses

  • Three-mana commander with no evasion is easy to block or remove, stalling the engine
  • Suspend payoff requires combat damage to a player, so heavy board stalls neuter her
  • Mono-red lacks card draw and interaction depth compared to multicolor builds
  • Suspended cards are still vulnerable while waiting, and many strong suspend cards skew narrow

Key Cards

  • As Foretold — Lets you cast suspended and free spells each turn, multiplying Amy's time-counter manipulation.
  • Jhoira of the Ghitu — Suspends any card for four counters, feeding Amy a steady supply of bombs to accelerate.
  • Rory Williams — Your partner provides a cheap evasive-ish attacker and reciprocally helps push combat damage through.
  • Hammer of Bogardan — A repeatable suspend/recursion burn engine that benefits from removing time counters quickly.
  • Lightning Runner — Combat damage triggers add combat steps, giving Amy multiple chances to strip counters per turn.

Upgrade Path

Lean into evasion and extra combats (Rogue's Passage, Aggravated Assault, Lightning Runner) so Amy reliably connects and triggers multiple times. Add free-cast enablers like As Foretold and strong suspend targets to maximize value, and consider pairing with a Doctor partner to splash colors for card draw and protection. Tighten the curve with rituals and fast mana so your suspended payoffs and Amy both land early.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Casting an early game-ending suspend bomb like a big X spell or Apocalypse-style effect ahead of curve
  • ▸Burn and direct damage stacked up from accelerated suspend spells
  • ▸Aggressive beatdown with Amy, Rory, and extra-combat enablers

Archetypes

  • Suspend Combo/Tempo — Amy directly accelerates suspended spells, letting you weaponize time counters as a resource.
  • Aggro/Voltron — Connecting with Amy is the whole engine, so making her hit harder and more often is core.
  • Spellslinger — Mono-red big-spell payoffs cast early via suspend reduction reward a spell-heavy shell.
