Gameplan

Jem rewards you for NOT casting from your hand each turn, so you build a UW deck that does everything from elsewhere—suspend, foretell, flashback, adventure, exile-cast cards, free spells, and instant-speed activated abilities—then collect a free card every end step. You play a patient draw-go control game, accruing card advantage while disrupting opponents, and eventually pull ahead on raw resources or assemble a finisher.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, low-cost card advantage that pulls you ahead in long games
  • Naturally synergizes with control/draw-go since you can hold up answers without ever 'casting from hand'
  • Cheap, evasive, vigilant body that pressures life totals while blocking
  • UW gives premier counters, board wipes, and tax/stax pieces to defend the engine

Weaknesses

  • The card draw is awkward to enable—any reactive spell from hand turns it off for the turn
  • Slow and grindy; can be outraced by fast aggro or combo before the engine matters
  • No built-in ramp or protection for itself; removal-heavy tables can keep Jem off the board
  • Tension between using your counterspells and triggering Jem

Lean into free-cast enablers (As Foretold, Aetherflux Reservoir, evoke elementals, foretell and suspend cards) so you reliably interact and develop without disabling Jem. Add fast mana and strong UW interaction—Swords to Plowshares, Mana Drain, Mystic Remora, Smothering Tithe—plus card-filtering rocks like Brainstone to keep hands empty at end step. Tighten the curve and add a compact combo finish so your card advantage actually converts into a win before the game stalls.
