Gameplan

Timin is a cheap evasive flyer that taps a creature every combat on every turn, letting you neutralize the scariest blocker or attacker before it acts. In mono-blue you build a tempo/control shell that protects Timin, denies opponents key creatures, and chips in evasive commander damage while card advantage and counterspells carry the long game. You win by grinding the board into submission and either swinging with a buffed flyer or assembling an inevitability engine.

Strengths

  • Repeatable combat-step removal-on-a-stick: tapping a blocker or attacker each combat warps every fight in your favor
  • Evasive flying body makes Timin a reliable commander-damage clock and easy to suit up
  • Mono-blue gives access to the format's best counterspells, card draw, and protection
  • Cheap five-mana cost with immediate impact; tap trigger works on every player's combat, not just yours

Weaknesses

  • Mono-blue lacks efficient creature removal and any way to deal with resolved enchantments or artifacts
  • Tapping only 'up to one' creature is slow against go-wide token boards
  • Without Rhoda the partner clause does nothing, so the solo build leans entirely on tempo and control
  • Relies on Timin sticking; he's a removal magnet with no built-in protection

Pick up Rhoda and lean into the Azorius tap-matters synergy for far more value, or stay mono-blue and add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crystal, Mox Amber) plus premium interaction (Mana Drain, Force of Negation, Swan Song). Add tutors and protection like Mother of Runes-style effects via blue's hexproof auras and Heroic Intervention substitutes, and consider extra-combat enablers such as Aggravated Assault to multiply Timin's tap triggers and damage output.
