The Commander

Flying

Whenever Yusri attacks, choose a number between 1 and 5. Flip that many coins. For each flip you win, draw a card. For each flip you lose, Yusri deals 2 damage to you. If you won five flips this way, you may cast spells from your hand this turn without paying their mana costs.

Guide

Gameplan

Yusri is a coin-flip payoff: attack each turn, flip 5 coins, and snowball card advantage off the wins while occasionally hitting the jackpot to free-cast your entire hand. You build a deck full of coin-flip doublers and luck manipulators to make those flips lopsided in your favor, then convert the resulting card flood into a winning turn. Until then, play a tempo-y Izzet game with cheap interaction and a low curve so your free-cast turns are explosive.

Strengths

  • Repeatable card advantage on a cheap 3-mana evasive flyer that pressures life totals.
  • Huge ceiling: winning all five flips lets you dump your hand for free, often ending the game.
  • Coin-flip support cards (Krark, Mirror cards, Frenetic Efreet) create absurd value loops in Izzet.
  • Low commander cost means you rebuild quickly and keep mana up for counterspells.

Weaknesses

  • Inherently variance-dependent; bad flips deal up to 8 damage to you and net nothing.
  • Yusri must attack and survive, so spot removal and blockers shut off the engine.
  • Self-damage adds up fast and makes you vulnerable to aggro and your own greed.
  • Izzet's classic weaknesses: no recursion, weak to board wipes and graveyard hate on combo pieces.

Key Cards

  • Krark, the Thumbless — Lets you reflip lost coins and copy spells, turning Yusri's flips and free-cast turns into snowballing value.
  • Krark's Other Thumb — Reroll a losing coin once, dramatically improving your odds of hitting the five-win jackpot.
  • Frenetic Efreet — A repeatable coin-flip outlet that synergizes with doublers and protects itself.
  • Mass Polymorph — With a free-cast turn you can cheat out a board, but more importantly Izzet payoffs like this end games after Yusri draws gas.
  • Thassa's Oracle — A reliable, compact win condition you can free-cast or combo into once your hand floods with draw.
  • Aether Channeler — Cheap value creature emblematic of the low-curve cards you want to free-cast in bulk on a jackpot turn.

Upgrade Path

Lean into coin-flip enablers like Krark, the Thumbless and Krark's Other Thumb to consistently approach the five-win jackpot, and add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, signets) so your free-cast turns are backed by real mana for X-spells. Tighten the curve with cheap impactful cards worth free-casting, include protection like Lightning Greaves and counterspells to keep Yusri attacking, and add a clean win such as Thassa's Oracle plus Demonic/Mystical tutors to find it after Yusri refills your hand.
