The Commander

Flying, haste

Genius Industrialist — Whenever Iron Man attacks, create a Treasure token, then you may sacrifice a noncreature artifact. If you do, search your library for an artifact card with mana value equal to 1 plus the sacrificed artifact's mana value, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up Iron Man and start attacking — every swing makes a Treasure and lets you sacrifice a noncreature artifact to tutor a bigger one straight onto the battlefield. You ramp up the artifact 'curve' (sac a Treasure to fetch a 2-drop, then a 3, then a 4...) into game-ending bombs, all while Iron Man's flying haste applies pressure from turn five onward.

Strengths

  • Built-in artifact tutoring that puts cards directly onto the battlefield, dodging counterspells and hand disruption
  • Flying haste lets him attack and trigger immediately, generating value the turn he lands
  • Treasure generation fuels both ramp and the sacrifice chain to climb to expensive artifacts
  • Self-sustaining engine — each attack produces a free sacrifice fodder (a Treasure) without needing other cards

Weaknesses

  • Heavily commander-dependent; if Iron Man is repeatedly removed the engine stalls
  • The tutor only steps up by exactly 1 mana value, so reaching huge artifacts takes multiple attacks
  • Vulnerable to artifact sweepers like Vandalblast and Bane of Progress that wipe your board and fodder
  • Must connect in combat to advance, so fog/blockers and being chump-blocked slow the chain

Key Cards

  • Mishra's Bauble — A zero-cost artifact that lets you fetch a one-drop, cantripping while seeding the bottom of your tutor chain.
  • Lightning Greaves — Haste is redundant but the shroud protects your engine commander from targeted removal.
  • Portal to Phyrexia — A premium high-MV artifact payoff worth chaining toward for its devastating ETB and recurring removal.
  • Unwinding Clock — Untaps your artifacts each opponent's turn, turning Treasures and tap-abilities into repeatable value.
  • Inspiring Statuary — Improvise lets you channel your artifact-heavy board into casting expensive spells alongside the tutor chain.
  • Urza, Lord High Artificer — Turns every artifact into mana and provides a powerful repeatable token and tutor-adjacent engine in this shell.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the artifact mana curve so every sacrifice reliably steps up into a meaningful target rather than a dead one, and include cheap zero/one-cost artifacts (Bauble, Ornithopter, Mox-style rocks) to start the chain low. Add protection like Lightning Greaves and counterspells to keep Iron Man swinging, plus payoffs at the top end (Portal to Phyrexia, Darksteel Forge, combo pieces). Push power by integrating fast mana (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring), Urza/Karn synergies, and a compact two-card artifact combo for a faster, more resilient kill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Chain into game-ending artifacts like Portal to Phyrexia or Blightsteel Colossus and overwhelm the table
  • ▸Assemble an artifact combo (e.g., infinite mana or token loops) for a deterministic kill
  • ▸Suit Iron Man with equipment and win through repeated evasive Voltron damage
  • ▸Grind incremental Treasure and artifact advantage into an unbeatable board, then close with a big haymaker

Archetypes

  • Artifacts (Big Mana) — His attack trigger tutors progressively larger artifacts onto the battlefield, rewarding a dense artifact deck.
  • Combo — Treasure generation and free artifact tutoring can assemble artifact-based loops and infinite engines.
  • Voltron/Tempo — Flying haste plus equipment makes Iron Man a fast, evasive threat that also advances your board each swing.
  • Spellslinger/Control — UR lets you protect the engine with counterspells and burn while the artifact chain pulls ahead on value.
