The Commander

Guide

Gameplan

Jedit Ojanen is a vanilla-ish 7-mana beater, so the deck leans on its color identity rather than the card's text: play UW control/midrange that protects a threat and grinds value, using Jedit as a reliable Cat Warrior body to carry equipment and auras or to anchor a typal board. You stall early with removal and card draw, then commit Jedit late and turn him into a lethal clock. Most games end through repeatable combat damage or commander damage backed by counterspells and board wipes.

Strengths

  • Access to the best UW removal, counters, and board wipes for a controlling shell
  • Strong protection suite (Swords, hexproof/indestructible) makes Voltron with a 5/5 body resilient
  • Cat Warrior creature type opens both Cat and Warrior typal synergies
  • White/blue gives premium card advantage and flicker/blink toolbox to recur value engines

Weaknesses

  • The commander itself provides no built-in card advantage, ramp, or evasion
  • High 7 mana value makes Jedit slow to deploy and easy to chump or remove
  • UW lacks efficient ramp and big mana, so casting recasting Jedit hurts
  • No native reach against fliers, artifacts/enchantments removal, or fast combo without dedicated answers

Key Cards

  • Swords to Plowshares — Best-in-class one-mana removal to keep you alive long enough to deploy Jedit.
  • Smothering Tithe — Premier white ramp/card advantage that fixes UW's mana shortfall for a 7-drop.
  • Skullclamp — Turns a typal token board or small Cats into a relentless card-draw engine.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Gives Jedit evasion, protection, and value, making him a real Voltron threat.
  • Teferi's Protection — Saves your board and Jedit from wraths and combo, a crucial UW safety valve.
  • Cyclonic Rift — The format's best blue blowout, letting a control deck reset and then swing for the win.

Upgrade Path

Add real ramp and fixing (Smothering Tithe, mana rocks, Land Tax) so Jedit and other top-end land on curve, and tighten the removal/counter suite with efficient picks like Swords, Path, Counterspell, and Mana Drain. Commit to one axis—Voltron equipment or a typal go-wide plan—rather than splitting resources, and include strong protection (Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention-style white effects) to insulate your investment. For higher power, lean into a blink value engine or a compact two-card combo finish so you don't rely solely on a slow vanilla beater.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander/combat damage from a suited-up Jedit
  • ▸Going wide with a Cat or Warrior token board behind anthems
  • ▸Cyclonic Rift overload into an alpha strike
  • ▸Grinding to a long-game finisher like a big creature, planeswalker ultimate, or an infinite blink/value engine

Archetypes

  • Voltron — A durable 5/5 commander in protection-rich UW can carry equipment and auras to commander-damage kills.
  • Control — UW offers the deepest counterspell, removal, and board-wipe package to grind opponents out.
  • Cats/Warriors Typal — Jedit's Cat Warrior typing supports either tribe with lords and payoffs for go-wide aggression.
  • Blink — White and blue flicker effects let you reuse ETB value creatures while protecting your threats.
