BuildCard details

The Commander

Vehicles you control have crew 2.

At the beginning of combat on your turn, target artifact creature you control gains lifelink and vigilance until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Kotori turns Vehicles into a low-cost beatdown engine: with universal crew 2 you deploy big artifact threats cheaply and swing every turn while gaining life and keeping back blockers. You ramp into Vehicles and powerful artifact creatures early, then use Kotori's combat trigger to make an attacker lifelinking and vigilant, racing the table while staying defended. Backed by UW control elements, you grind out the game on the back of resilient, repeatable artifact damage.

Strengths

  • Universal crew 2 means even small creatures can pilot huge Vehicles, freeing up bodies
  • Lifelink + vigilance each turn lets you race aggressively while staying defensively safe
  • Vehicles dodge most sorcery-speed removal since they aren't creatures outside combat
  • UW gives premier control tools, board wipes, and protection to defend the engine

Weaknesses

  • Reliant on the commander to make crew cheap and grant keywords; losing her slows the deck
  • Vehicles still need a creature to crew, so creature-light boards stall out
  • Artifact removal and Stony Silence-type effects hit the whole strategy hard
  • Lacks reach and big mana finishers; can grind too slowly against fast combo decks

Key Cards

  • Smuggler's Copter — Cheap evasive Vehicle that crews for free under Kotori and loots to fuel the deck.
  • Skysovereign, Consul Flagship — A flying Vehicle bomb that pings creatures or planeswalkers and gets lifelink/vigilance from Kotori.
  • Parhelion II — A game-ending Vehicle that floods the board with Angels and hits for massive lifelink with Kotori's trigger.
  • Aetherflux Reservoir — Converts the steady lifelink gain from Kotori into a one-shot kill across the table.
  • Sai, Master Thopterist — Generates Thopters to crew Vehicles and provides card draw whenever you cast artifacts.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and artifact ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Mind Stone) to deploy Vehicles ahead of curve, and lean into token producers like Sai and Hangarback Walker to guarantee crew. Tighten the control suite with Swords to Plowshares, Cyclonic Rift, and Teferi's Protection, and include an alternate combo finish like Aetherflux Reservoir or Walking Ballista to avoid relying solely on combat. Replace clunky Vehicles with the most efficient evasive ones to maximize Kotori's per-turn keyword grant.

Core Cards

  • Sai, Master Thopterist
  • Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle
  • Peacewalker Colossus
  • Cataclysmic Gearhulk
  • Shimmer Myr
  • Mirage Mirror
  • Raiders' Karve
  • Solemn Simulacrum
  • Silver Myr
  • Katsumasa, the Animator
  • Surgehacker Mech
  • Aerial Surveyor

Win Conditions

  • ▸Recurring lifelinking Vehicle attacks, especially with Parhelion II or Skysovereign
  • ▸Aetherflux Reservoir burst kill off accumulated life gain
  • ▸Grinding the table down with vigilant attackers while staying out of removal range
  • ▸Wide Thopter/token boards crewing multiple Vehicles for a lethal alpha strike

Archetypes

  • Vehicles Aggro — Kotori makes every Vehicle cheap to crew and grants lifelink/vigilance, enabling a fast, resilient Vehicle beatdown.
  • Artifacts Midrange — She rewards a heavy artifact build with crewers, payoffs, and powerful artifact creatures to target.
  • UW Control — White-blue protection, counters, and wraths defend the engine while Vehicles close from a stable board.
  • Lifegain Combo — Repeatable lifelink fuels payoffs like Aetherflux Reservoir for an alternate win.
