BuildCard details

The Commander

Haste

Whenever Laelia attacks, exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn.

Whenever one or more cards are put into exile from your library and/or your graveyard, put a +1/+1 counter on Laelia.

Guide

Gameplan

Attack with Laelia turn 3-4, exiling cards for extra value and growing her with counters every time you exile from library or graveyard. Lean on impulse-draw and graveyard exile effects to snowball her size while flooding the board with extra plays, then close with a big hasty hexproof-protected attacker or wide aggression.

Strengths

  • Free card advantage every combat, generating real velocity in mono-red
  • Snowballs into a massive evasion-free beater quickly via stacked counters
  • Cheap, hasty, and immediately impactful the turn she enters
  • Synergizes with the huge pool of red impulse-draw and exile payoffs

Weaknesses

  • No built-in evasion or protection—easily chump-blocked or removed
  • Commander-dependent; resetting her wipes most of your accumulated counters
  • Mono-red struggles with persistent card draw and interaction outside combat
  • Exiled impulse cards are lost if not played that turn, causing missed value

Key Cards

  • Light Up the Stage — Cheap impulse draw that triggers Laelia's counter and refuels your hand.
  • Bedevil — Mono-red wants instant-speed removal, and this kills creatures, planeswalkers, and artifacts.
  • Reckless Endeavor — Mass impulse-draw plus exile triggers pile counters on Laelia while digging deep.
  • Embercleave — Turns a grown Laelia or a wide board into a one-shot kill out of nowhere.
  • Faithless Looting — Cheap exile-fueling and graveyard interaction that feeds the second ability.
  • Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh — As a partner-style aggressive companion only if running a partner build—otherwise skip; prioritize haste enablers.
