BuildCard details

The Commander

Flying

When Malfegor enters, discard your hand. Each opponent sacrifices a creature of their choice for each card discarded this way.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Malfegor with a stacked hand to force every opponent to sacrifice multiple creatures at once, then beat down with a 6/6 flyer. You're a Rakdos midrange/sacrifice deck that loads up on discard payoffs and reanimation to turn emptying your hand into an advantage. Rebuy Malfegor or reanimate big threats to keep the pressure and grind opponents out.

Strengths

  • Mass edict effect that ignores hexproof/indestructible and clears the board on entry
  • 6/6 flying body closes games fast and pressures life totals
  • Synergizes with discard-matters and madness/reanimator shells
  • Punishes go-wide and creature-heavy decks hard

Weaknesses

  • Emptying your own hand leaves you topdecking and vulnerable to wraths
  • Six mana for an ETB that does nothing if your hand is empty when it enters
  • Weak against decks with few or no creatures (control, spellslinger)
  • Edicts let opponents sacrifice their worst creature, often tokens
  • No built-in protection; easily removed before it connects

Key Cards

  • Bone Miser — Turns Malfegor's mass discard into card draw, mana, and tokens, refilling everything you lose.
  • The Locust God — Replaces every discarded card with a flying token, turning the downside into a board state.
  • Containment Construct — Lets you replay each discarded card, recovering enormous value from the hand dump.
  • Reanimate — Cheaply returns Malfegor or other fatties from your graveyard for repeated edict triggers.
  • Feldon of the Third Path — Recasts Malfegor as a token to re-trigger the sacrifice effect each turn.
  • Anje Falkenrath — Provides repeatable discard and madness payoffs that fuel Malfegor and the graveyard.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and discard payoffs (Bone Miser, The Locust God, Containment Construct) so emptying your hand generates value instead of losing it. Build a reanimation package—Reanimate, Animate Dead, Feldon, Victimize—to recur Malfegor and re-trigger the edict repeatedly. Tighten the curve with efficient targeted removal and recursion (Sheoldred, Sheoldred's Edict, Buried Alive) to dodge the topdeck problem and convert edicts into a controlling grind.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beating down with Malfegor's 6/6 flying body after clearing blockers
  • ▸Reanimating and recasting large threats for repeated board wipes and damage
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist effects off forced sacrifices
  • ▸Going wide with token generators that benefit from discarding cards

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — You want a fat hand then empty it; reanimation rebuys Malfegor and other big threats from the yard.
  • Aristocrats — Forced sacrifices plus sac outlets and death triggers let you grind value off opponents' losses.
  • Discard Matters — Wheel and madness payoffs convert Malfegor's mandatory hand discard into raw advantage.
  • Midrange — Rakdos beatdown backed by removal and a flying finisher applies steady pressure.
