BuildCard details

The Commander

Vigilance, ward {2}

Other Zombies you control have vigilance.

Whenever another legendary creature you control dies, create a token that's a copy of that creature, except it's not legendary and it's a 2/2 black Zombie in addition to its other colors and types.

Guide

Gameplan

Ratadrabik turns your legendary creatures into recurring value engines: when a legend dies, you get a non-legendary 2/2 Zombie copy that keeps all its abilities. Load the deck with impactful legends and ETB/death triggers, sacrifice or trade them off, and snowball into a wide, sticky board. You grind opponents out with stacked enter-the-battlefield value, then close with an aristocrats drain or a token alpha strike.

Strengths

  • Converts legendary creatures into permanent token copies, dodging the legend rule and generating huge card advantage
  • Excellent in aristocrats shells—legends die and immediately return as bodies with their abilities intact
  • Gives your whole Zombie board vigilance, enabling you to attack and hold back defenders
  • Built-in protection with vigilance and ward {2} on himself, making him hard to remove cheaply

Weaknesses

  • Effects only trigger off creatures that die, so exile, bounce, and tuck removal completely shut him off
  • Token copies are fragile 2/2s vulnerable to board wipes that hit the whole team
  • Needs a critical mass of legendary creatures and sacrifice outlets to function—generic decks stall
  • Color identity lacks ramp and card draw beyond black's staples, so engine pieces can be slow to assemble

Key Cards

  • Liliana, Death's Majesty — Reanimates and recurs your dying legends while providing a board wipe and token fodder.
  • Phyrexian Altar — Free sacrifice outlet that loops legends through Ratadrabik for infinite value and mana.
  • Solemn Simulacrum — Not legendary itself, but illustrates the density of value creatures; pair with legends that ramp and draw on death.
  • Sun Titan — Recurs sacrificed permanents; legendary recursion bodies double up under Ratadrabik.
  • Massacre Girl, Known Killer — A legendary engine that snowballs alongside the Zombie token strategy and clears chump blockers.
  • Elenda, the Dusk Rose — Dies into a token copy that keeps her vampire-making trigger, fueling explosive aristocrats turns.

Upgrade Path

Increase your density of high-impact legendary creatures with strong death or ETB triggers (Elenda, Massacre Girl, Sheoldred) and add free sac outlets like Phyrexian Altar, Carrion Feeder, and Viscera Seer to abuse them. Layer in aristocrats payoffs (Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat) and reanimation (Reanimate, Animate Dead, Liliana, Death's Majesty) so dead legends keep returning. Tighten the mana base with fast rocks, Cabal Coffers/Urborg, and efficient tutors like Diabolic Intent to assemble combos faster.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, or Bastion of Remembrance as legends die and copy
  • ▸Go-wide Zombie alpha strike backed by anthems or an overrun effect
  • ▸Infinite loops with Phyrexian Altar plus a value legend for unbounded tokens, mana, or drain
  • ▸Grinding the table out on card advantage until a stacked board overwhelms them

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Sacrificing legends to outlets triggers death payoffs and yields token copies, draining the table repeatedly.
  • Legendary Tribal — Every legendary creature becomes a two-for-one, rewarding a deck stuffed with powerful legends.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — Steady stream of 2/2 Zombies plus anthem and overrun effects enables a creature swarm finish.
  • Value/Midrange Control — Repeatedly reusing ETB legends grinds opponents out of resources over a long game.
