BuildCard details

The Commander

{G}: Target creature blocks Sisters of Stone Death this turn if able.

{B}{G}: Exile target creature blocking or blocked by Sisters of Stone Death.

{2}{B}: Put a creature card exiled with Sisters of Stone Death onto the battlefield under your control.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Sisters of Stone Death, then use its three activated abilities together as a combat engine: force a creature to block, exile it during combat, then pay 2B to bring it back under your control. You grind the table down one creature at a time while building a stolen army, backed by big mana and combat support.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, color-flexible removal that exiles (gets around indestructible and recursion) AND steals the best creature on the board
  • Snowballs hard once online—each combat can remove a threat and add it to your side
  • BG gives access to the format's best ramp, recursion, and tutors to assemble engines
  • All three abilities are protected on the command zone, so it's hard to permanently answer

Weaknesses

  • Eight mana for a creature that does nothing the turn it lands without follow-up mana
  • Needs to attack or be attacked into to exile/steal, so it's slow and combat-dependent
  • Removal-heavy tables can bounce or kill it before you untap, resetting your investment
  • No evasion or protection built in—a 7/5 body is easy to chump or remove
  • Mana-hungry: forcing a block, exiling, and reanimating in one turn costs a lot

Key Cards

  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps your lands after combat damage so you can immediately reanimate the creature you just exiled.
  • Lure — Forces all creatures to block Sisters, letting you exile and later steal whichever blocker you choose.
  • Cryptolith Rite — Turns your stolen creatures into mana to fuel the expensive exile and reanimate activations.
  • Whispersilk Cloak — Grants unblockable and shroud so Sisters connects safely while still triggering its combat exile via forced blocks.
  • Asceticism — Hexproof and regeneration keep your expensive commander and stolen army on the battlefield.
  • Cabal Coffers — Black-heavy ramp generates the mountains of mana the activated abilities demand.

Upgrade Path

Add untap effects (Sword of Feast and Famine, Seedborn Muse, Wilderness Reclamation) and big mana (Cabal Coffers, Nyxbloom Ancient) so you can exile and reanimate in the same turn every turn. Include evasion and protection (Whispersilk Cloak, Lightning Greaves, Asceticism) to keep your eight-mana commander connecting and alive. Round it out with forced-block enablers like Lure and Nemesis Mask plus tutors to find your engine pieces faster, pushing the deck toward a powerful, grindy midrange-control shell.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with Sisters plus an army of stolen creatures
  • ▸Drain or overrun the table after exiling every opposing blocker
  • ▸Leverage stolen high-impact creatures (Craterhoof-style finishers) to close the game
  • ▸Combo finish from BG staples like Mikaeus or a sacrifice loop using the bodies you accumulate

Archetypes

  • Creature Theft / Reanimator — The 2B ability literally puts exiled creatures onto the battlefield under your control, making stealing opponents' bombs the core plan.
  • Combat Control — Forced-block plus exile turns combat into a removal engine that picks off the scariest creature each turn.
  • Stax/Attrition — Repeatable exile-based removal lets you grind the board to nothing while you stockpile their best threats.
