The Commander

Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, create a Clue token. (It's an artifact with "{2}, Sacrifice this token: Draw a card.")

Gameplan

Cast cheap noncreature spells to flood the board with Clue tokens, then use The Mechanist's tap ability to animate those Clues (and other artifact tokens) into 3/1 flying Constructs that swing for surprise damage. You build a wide artifact-token board while drawing cards off Clues, eventually overwhelming with flyers or going off with token-doublers and untappers.

Strengths

  • Every instant, sorcery, artifact, and enchantment you cast nets a Clue, giving relentless card advantage in mono-blue
  • Turns dead artifact tokens into evasive 3/1 flyers for repeatable, flexible damage
  • Mono-blue gives access to deep counterspell and protection suites to defend the engine
  • Synergizes beautifully with token doublers, untap effects, and artifact-matters payoffs

Weaknesses

  • The animation only hits one token per turn without untappers, making damage slow
  • Board wipes and artifact removal (Vandalblast, Bane of Progress) gut the whole plan
  • 3/1 bodies die to nearly any blocker or ping, so attacks need protection
  • Mono-blue struggles to interact with resolved permanents and lacks ramp outside artifacts

Upgrade Path

Add token doublers (Academy Manufactor, Mondrak, Glory Dominus is off-color so lean on blue/colorless doublers) and untap engines (Intruder Alarm, Kiora's Follower) to animate multiple tokens per turn. Tighten the manabase with fast rocks like Sol Ring, Mind Stone, and cheap cantrips that all trigger Clues, and include a critical-mass payoff such as Sai, Master Thopterist or Aetherflux Reservoir. Round out with strong mono-blue interaction—Cyclonic Rift, Swan Song, Mystic Confluence—to protect your engine and reset stalled boards.
