Why is this card good?
Fiery Islet is one of the cleanest fixing options for any Izzet (U/R) deck, and it earns its slot in nearly every two-color or wedge list that runs those colors. The pain (1 life per tap) is trivial in Commander's 40-life format, and the upside is real: when you flood out or simply don't need lands anymore, you can cash it in for a card.
That late-game flexibility is what separates it from a basic Island or Mountain. Spellslinger, storm, and draw-go control decks love it because it never becomes a dead draw — it converts into gas. Combo and cEDH lists value the untapped, painless fixing for fast, color-hungry openings.
When NOT to play it: heavy landfall or land-sacrifice synergy decks that want to keep their lands, and lifeloss-punishing pods where small life payments add up. Budget-conscious players can substitute it, but the effect is genuinely strong.
Run it in basically any Izzet deck that wants smooth, efficient mana.
