Why is this card good?
Tainted Field is a quietly excellent dual land for two-color (or splash) decks built around black.
The catch is in the name: it only taps for colored mana if you control a Swamp. In practice, this is almost always true in a B/W deck, and the upside is significant — it enters untapped, has no life loss, and counts as neither a Plains nor a Swamp for things like nonbasic hate or fetch effects (which is occasionally relevant, usually a downside). When you can't make colored mana, it still taps for , so it's never fully dead.
Who wants it: Any Orzhov deck where black is the heavier color — Teysa aristocrats, Elenda, or any B/W list running real card-fixing. It's a clean budget-friendly upgrade over taplands.
When to skip it: Decks where white is your primary color and Swamps are scarce, or low-Swamp-count manabases — you risk it whiffing on white. Also useless in mono-color or three-plus-color decks where better duals/triomes exist.
