The Commander

This spell can't be countered.

Flying

You have protection from each of your opponents. (You can't be dealt damage, enchanted, or targeted by anything controlled by your opponents.)

Guide

Gameplan

Ramp into your 8-mana flier and use its 'protection from each opponent' to make YOU (the player) untargetable and undamageable, then grind out the table with a UW control/pillowfort shell. You stabilize behind board wipes, taxes, and removal while opponents can't burn you out, edict you, or steer threats at you, eventually closing with evasive beats or an inevitability engine.

Strengths

  • Player-level protection from all opponents shuts off targeted burn, edicts, discard, group-slug, and 'each opponent' or 'target player' effects aimed at you
  • Uncounterable flier that dodges most spot removal aimed at it once it resolves
  • Lives in UW, the best colors for board wipes, counterspells, and pillowfort/stax tax pieces
  • Strong against Voltron, group-burn, and targeted-disruption decks who suddenly can't interact with you

Weaknesses

  • 8 mana is a brutal floor and the protection only applies while it's actually on the battlefield
  • Protection is from controlled permanents/spells — symmetric burn, group damage, and life-payment effects can still get around it in odd cases, and combat damage from creatures still happens
  • Board wipes, exile, and 'sacrifice'/non-targeted removal blow it up easily despite protection
  • UW lacks fast ramp, so getting to eight mana reliably is the deck's biggest hurdle
  • Slow clock; a 4/4-ish flier alone won't win quickly and combo decks ignore your defenses entirely

Key Cards

  • Smothering Tithe — Premier UW ramp/treasure engine that helps you hit eight mana and fund a control plan.
  • Teferi's Protection — Backs up your personal protection by phasing out your board and life total against the wraths you can't dodge.
  • Swords to Plowshares — Cheap exile removal to clear threats your protection doesn't stop, like attacking creatures.
  • Propaganda — Pillowfort tax that protects your board while your commander already protects your face.
  • Dockside Extortionist — Explosive treasure ramp to leap to eight mana ahead of schedule.
  • The One Ring — Colorless protection plus card advantage that keeps a control deck fueled.

Upgrade Path

Prioritize fast, color-relevant ramp (Smothering Tithe, Dockside Extortionist, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, signets) so the eight-mana cost stops being a liability. Add resilience and overlapping protection (Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention-style effects, Lightning Greaves) plus a tight removal and wrath suite, then pick a decisive finisher—either a Voltron equipment package or a compact two-card combo—so games actually end instead of stalling.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Suit up the uncounterable flier with equipment/auras to deal lethal commander damage
  • ▸Grind to inevitability with a card-advantage engine and finish with planeswalker ultimates or an alt-win like Approach of the Second Sun
  • ▸Out-stax and lock the table, then win with a flying token swarm or a single resilient threat
  • ▸Assemble a UW combo (e.g., Heliod-style or infinite blink loop) once defenses are set

Archetypes

  • Control — UW gives counters and wraths while your protection makes you near-impossible to pressure directly.
  • Pillowfort/Stax — Player protection pairs perfectly with taxes and damage-prevention to make you the table's safest seat.
  • Voltron — An uncounterable, hard-to-target flier can carry equipment and auras as a resilient finisher.
  • Superfriends/Value — Planeswalkers and engines thrive when opponents can't redirect attacks or burn at you.
