BuildCard details

The Commander

Artifact creatures and Heroes you control get +1/+1 for each Artificer you control and each Artificer card in your graveyard.

A deck can have any number of cards named Cid, Timeless Artificer.

Guide

Gameplan

Cid is a UW artifact-creatures-matter anthem commander: assemble a board of artifact creatures and Heroes, then pump them with a +1/+1 anthem that scales off every Artificer you control AND every Artificer in your graveyard. You spend the early game deploying cheap artificers and token-makers, then alpha-strike once Cid's anthem stacks high. Because you can run multiple copies of Cid, you can lean on him as a repeatable, hard-to-deny payoff.

Strengths

  • Anthem scales off graveyard Artificers too, so it grows even when your creatures die and is resilient to board wipes.
  • Multiple copies of Cid allowed means you almost always have your payoff available and can rebuild fast.
  • Cycling WU makes extra/redundant Cids never truly dead cards in the early game.
  • UW gives access to the best protection, card draw, and artifact synergies in the format.

Weaknesses

  • The anthem does nothing without a board, so you're vulnerable to early aggression and being behind on tempo.
  • Heavily reliant on Artificer creatures specifically to scale the buff, narrowing deckbuilding.
  • UW lacks strong recursion and reach, so a single well-timed wrath can stall you despite graveyard scaling.
  • No inherent evasion or trample—chump blockers can neutralize a fat board.

Key Cards

  • Hangarback Walker — An artifact creature that leaves a wide board of Thopters behind, feeding both the swarm and (if it's an Artificer) the graveyard count.
  • Sai, Master Thopterist — A legendary Artificer that floods the board with Thopter artifact creatures, fueling the anthem and providing card advantage.
  • Thopter Spy Network — Repeatable artifact-creature tokens plus card draw keeps the wide board and anthem fed every turn.
  • Skullclamp — Turns your small artifact tokens into a relentless card-draw engine that also stocks the graveyard.
  • Smothering Tithe — Generates the explosive mana UW token decks need to deploy multiple threats and protect them in a single turn.
  • Cid, Timeless Artificer — Running multiple copies maximizes both the on-board Artificer count and graveyard count, snowballing the anthem.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and token engines (Smothering Tithe, Skullclamp, Thopter Spy Network) and run multiple Cid copies to guarantee your payoff. Prioritize anthem-stacking Artificers and evasion or overrun effects (like mass-flying or trample enablers) to convert a wide board into lethal. Round out with premium UW protection (Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention analogs, counterspells) so your snowball survives interaction.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide alpha strike with a stacked Cid anthem buffing every artifact creature and Hero.
  • ▸Aerial damage from pumped Thopter/Servo flyers that opponents can't block.
  • ▸Equipment/anthem-enabled commander damage or evasive beaters carrying the buff.
  • ▸Grinding card advantage into an overwhelming token board that no single wrath can answer.

Archetypes

  • Artifact Tokens / Go-Wide — Cid turns swarms of Thopters, Servos, and Constructs into a lethal team via a scaling anthem.
  • Artificer Tribal — Loading up on Artificer creatures directly inflates the +1/+1 bonus across your whole board.
  • Aggro/Midrange Beatdown — The anthem rewards committing artifact creatures early and pressuring opponents with combat damage.
  • Control-Aggro Hybrid — UW interaction protects a growing board while Cid provides the inevitable closing threat.
