The Commander

Lifelink

Whenever an Aura you control becomes attached to a nonland permanent an opponent controls with mana value less than or equal to that Aura's mana value, gain control of that permanent for as long as that Aura is attached to it.

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up cheap Auras—usually enchant-removal-style ones—onto opponents' creatures and permanents, but tuned so the Aura's mana value steals them outright. Eriette converts removal Auras into permanent theft, snowballing into an overwhelming board you didn't pay full price for, while lifelink keeps you stable. Close games by amassing a stolen army, by enchantment-based combo, or by attacking with the creatures you've taken.

Strengths

  • Turns one-mana 'pacifism'-style Auras into outright theft, generating massive card and tempo advantage
  • Lifelink plus stolen blockers makes Eriette extremely hard to race or pressure
  • Esper colors give the best removal, counters, and tutors to protect the engine
  • Steals problematic commanders and bombs rather than just neutralizing them

Weaknesses

  • Auras are inherently two-card combos—an Aura plus a creature—so removal of either is a blowout
  • Highly vulnerable to enchantment removal and board wipes (lose the Aura, lose the creature)
  • Stolen permanents return immediately if the Aura detaches, so it's fragile control
  • Slower to assemble its engine than dedicated combo or aggro decks
  • Empty boards (token swarms, go-wide) leave fewer juicy targets and can outpace you

Key Cards

  • Kenrith's Transformation — Cheap, undestroyable Aura whose MV is high enough to steal most creatures while drawing you a card.
  • Faith's Fetters — Three-mana Aura that locks down and steals a wide range of creatures and other permanents.
  • Lignify — Two-mana Aura that strips abilities and easily out-costs the creature's MV for theft.
  • Songs of the Damned — Not core—skip; instead prioritize Aura recursion like Hall of Heliod's Generosity to rebuy your stolen-targeting Auras.
  • Hall of Heliod's Generosity — Repeatable enchantment recursion lets you reattach Auras after they're removed.
  • Sigil of the Empty Throne — Pumps out angels every time you cast an Aura, giving an independent win that doesn't rely on opponents' boards.
  • Eidolon of Blossoms — Constellation card draw refuels your Aura-heavy deck so you never run dry.
  • Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice — Tutors Auras directly onto creatures every time you cast one, chaining theft and protection.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and tutors (Mana Crypt, Enlightened Tutor, Demonic Tutor) to find your best stealing Aura faster, and lean on recursion like Hall of Heliod's Generosity and Sun Titan to make the engine resilient. Include enchantment-based combos—Sigil of the Empty Throne plus cheap Aura loops, or an Estrid/Light-Paws package—so you have a non-board-dependent kill. Round out with strong interaction (Swords to Plowshares, Counterspell, Cyclonic Rift) to protect Eriette and your attached Auras from disruption.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Amass a board of stolen creatures and beat down, including commander-damage theft
  • ▸Voltron Eriette with buff Auras and connect for lethal backed by lifelink
  • ▸Cast enough Auras to flood the board with Sigil of the Empty Throne angels
  • ▸Lock the game with stolen mana producers and stax pieces, then grind out an inevitable win

Archetypes

  • Control / Theft — Eriette converts removal Auras into stealing opposing threats, controlling the board while building your own.
  • Enchantress — The deck runs many Auras and enchantments, so card-draw engines like Eidolon of Blossoms and Argothian Enchantress fuel it naturally.
  • Voltron — You can pivot to stacking buff Auras on Eriette herself, leaning on lifelink and protection to swing for lethal.
  • Combo — Eriette enables combos with creatures whose abilities you steal, or pairs with enchantment loops like Solemnity/Phyrexian Unlife shells.
