BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever you cast a green creature spell, you may search your library for a creature card, reveal it, then shuffle and put that card on top.

Whenever you cast a blue creature spell, reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature card, put that card into your hand.

Guide

Gameplan

Momir Vig turns every creature spell into card advantage: green casts tutor a creature to the top, blue casts then draw it. Chain green-into-blue casts to refill your hand each turn, build a value-heavy Simic board, and either grind opponents out or assemble a creature-based combo. You ramp early, deploy Momir around turn 5, and snowball card flow into an overwhelming engine.

Strengths

  • Massive repeatable card advantage from creature spells, especially dual-colored ones that trigger both abilities
  • Excellent tutoring consistency to find combo pieces or answers each turn
  • Simic colors offer top-tier ramp and big late-game payoffs
  • Flexible toolbox shell that can find silver bullets for any matchup

Weaknesses

  • Momir is a 5-mana enabler that does nothing the turn it lands and is a removal magnet
  • Heavy reliance on the commander; loses steam under heavy spot removal or recursion taxes
  • No built-in interaction or board presence on its own
  • Weak to stax pieces that tax casting or punish creature decks (Cursed Totem, etc.)

Key Cards

  • Cytoplast Manipulator — A blue/green creature that triggers both abilities and can steal opposing creatures repeatedly.
  • Coiling Oracle — Cheap GU creature that triggers both abilities while ramping or drawing on cast.
  • Plaxcaster Frogling — GU body that triggers both halves and protects your engine with proliferate-able shroud counters.
  • Birds of Paradise — Green one-drop that both ramps and sets up a top-of-library tutor every cast.
  • Temur Sabertooth — Lets you bounce and recast creatures to re-trigger Momir for repeated value or combo loops.
  • Cloud of Faeries — Free blue creature combos with untappers and saccing outlets for engine loops.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Carpet of Flowers) to deploy Momir ahead of curve, and prioritize GU creatures that trigger both abilities. Tighten the creature toolbox with tutorable combo pieces and silver bullets, then add protection (Heroic Intervention, Lightning Greaves) and a clean creature-based win like Walking Ballista or a Temur Sabertooth loop to convert your value into actual kills.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Grind out card and board advantage until a fattie or beatdown finishes the table
  • ▸Assemble a creature combo (e.g., infinite ETB/mana loops with bounce and untap effects)
  • ▸Cast an overwhelming finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or a big X-creature
  • ▸Lock the game with repeatable creature-steal or value engines and win incrementally

Archetypes

  • Value Midrange — Momir's tutor-and-draw triggers generate relentless creature advantage to grind opponents down.
  • Combo — Reliable creature tutoring assembles loops like infinite mana or bounce-recast engines.
  • Toolbox/Control — Search the top of your library for the exact creature answer each turn, from blockers to hatebears.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Simic counter synergies pair naturally with the graft and evolve creatures that trigger Momir.
