BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, it gains double strike until end of turn.

Fire Cross — Whenever Seifer Almasy deals combat damage to a player, you may cast target instant or sorcery card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard without paying its mana cost. If that spell would be put into your graveyard, exile it instead.

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up Seifer (or another lone attacker) and swing solo to trigger double strike, then connect with Seifer to free-cast cheap burn and value spells from your graveyard. You grind incremental advantage through repeated combat triggers and protect your single attacker with equipment, evasion, and a low mono-red curve.

Strengths

  • Built-in double strike makes any single attacker hit twice, doubling Voltron damage and Seifer's own Fire Cross potential
  • Free-casting instants/sorceries every combat generates relentless card and tempo advantage
  • Cheap to recast at four mana and immediately threatening as a Voltron commander
  • Mono-red consistency keeps mana clean and lets you run powerful colorless equipment

Weaknesses

  • Double strike only triggers when attacking alone, so wide boards and tokens fight your own commander's ability
  • Relies on connecting in combat; blockers, fogs, and removal stall the whole engine
  • Mono-red lacks card draw, ramp, and recursion compared to other colors
  • Fire Cross is capped at mana value 3 or less, limiting the ceiling of free spells

Key Cards

  • Embercleave — Cheap to cast off a lone double-striking attacker and turns a single connection into lethal commander damage.
  • Fireshrieker — Redundant double strike that stacks nothing but guarantees the effect even when Seifer is gone, and helps other lone attackers.
  • Rogue's Passage — Pushes Seifer through unblocked to guarantee Fire Cross triggers and combat damage.
  • Light Up the Stage — A cheap, high-value spell to repeatedly free-cast off Fire Cross for card advantage.
  • Faithless Looting — Fills the graveyard with mana-value-3-or-less spells for Fire Cross to recur.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Protection plus card draw and damage that snowballs a lone unblockable Seifer.

Upgrade Path

Add more efficient evasion and protection (Whispersilk Cloak, Mask of Memory, Lightning Greaves) so Seifer connects reliably, and tune your spell base toward impactful three-mana-or-less instants and sorceries that Fire Cross can recur. Improve mana with fast rocks (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet) and consider extra-combat or unblockable enablers to stack multiple Fire Cross triggers per turn for explosive bursts.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Repeated Fire Cross free-casts of burn spells like Lightning Bolt to drain opponents out
  • ▸Embercleave or Sword swings delivering one-shot lethal connections

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Double strike on a single attacker plus equipment turns Seifer into a fast commander-damage threat.
  • Spellslinger — Fire Cross repeatedly free-casts cheap instants and sorceries from the graveyard each combat.
  • Aggro Tempo — A low mono-red curve and evasive lone attacker pressures the table early and often.
