The Commander

Prevent all damage that would be dealt to Sevinne.

Whenever you cast your first instant or sorcery spell from your graveyard each turn, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.

Gameplan

Sevinne is a Jeskai spellslinger/control deck that grinds value by recurring instants and sorceries from the graveyard and copying them. You stabilize early with cheap removal and counterspells, then start flashing back or replaying spells to generate two-for-one (or more) advantage, eventually copying a big finisher to win.

Strengths

  • Doubles up every recast spell, turning flashback effects into massive value engines
  • Indestructible-ish commander (damage is prevented) that survives most board wipes and combat
  • Jeskai colors give the best instant/sorcery toolbox for removal, counters, and card draw
  • Excellent at controlling the board while accruing inevitability

Weaknesses

  • Damage prevention only protects Sevinne—exile, -X/-X, and sacrifice still kill her
  • Slow to come online and needs spells in the graveyard before the ability matters
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate which shuts off the recursion engine
  • Can be grindy and lacks an explosive turn-one-style payoff without combo pieces

  • Snapcaster Mage — Flashes back any instant or sorcery so Sevinne copies it for a clean two-for-one.
  • Mizzix's Mastery — Cast from graveyard, Sevinne copies it to recur and double your biggest spell for explosive turns.
  • Increasing Vengeance — A buyback copy spell that synergizes perfectly, multiplying copies of your key spells.
  • Mystic Sanctuary — Returns an instant or sorcery to the top of your library, fueling repeated graveyard recursion.
  • Past in Flames — Gives all instants and sorceries flashback, and Sevinne copies it to chain a huge spell sequence.
  • Underworld Breach — Lets you recast spells from the graveyard repeatedly, enabling explosive copy-driven combo turns.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into the copy-and-storm plan with Underworld Breach, Aetherflux Reservoir, and cheap rituals for explosive turns, while adding fast mana like Mana Crypt and Jeskai Signet to come online faster. Tighten the manabase with fetches, duals, and Mystic Sanctuary, and include graveyard-hate protection such as counterspells to defend your engine. For a smoother control build, prioritize efficient flashback spells, Snapcaster-style recursion, and a couple of tutors to find your best copy targets.

  • ▸Copying a large X-spell or burn finisher like Comet Storm or Fireball to deal lethal damage

  • ▸Grinding pure card advantage until opponents run out of resources, then closing with token swarms or a single threat
  • ▸Aetherflux Reservoir or Approach of the Second Sun off repeated cheap-spell chains

Archetypes

  • Spellslinger — Sevinne rewards casting and recasting instants and sorceries, copying each one for value.
  • Control — Jeskai removal, counters, and a resilient commander let you grind opponents into the late game.
  • Combo — Underworld Breach and copy-spell loops can assemble lethal storm or infinite-mana finishes.
  • Reanimator (spell recursion) — The deck functions as instant/sorcery reanimator, repeatedly returning and copying spells from the yard.
