The Commander

At the beginning of your first main phase, you may discard a card. When you do, target creature can't block this turn.

Sonic Blast — Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, Shriek deals 1 damage to that player.

Guide

Gameplan

Shriek is a Rakdos aggro-aristocrats commander that punishes the board for dying. Each turn you can pitch a dead card to push a key attacker through, while every opponent creature that dies pings its controller for 1—so you pair edicts, board wipes, and forced sacrifice with reckless aggression to grind life totals down. You win by attacking into unblockable lanes and chipping the table with Sonic Blast triggers from creature removal.

Strengths

  • Free, repeatable evasion every turn that's also discard outlet fuel
  • Sonic Blast turns every opponent's dying creature into reach/incremental damage
  • Cheap 3-mana body gets aggression online early and recasts easily
  • Loves edict effects and board wipes that opponents normally hate

Weaknesses

  • Sonic Blast only pings 1 per death—slow without lots of removal volume
  • No built-in evasion or protection for itself; dies to a stiff breeze
  • Discard ability needs fuel, can run you out of cards in grindy games
  • Wraths can backfire by killing your own attackers before they connect

Key Cards

  • Grave Pact — Every creature you lose forces each opponent to sac, machine-gunning Sonic Blast damage table-wide.
  • Dictate of Erebos — Same forced-sac engine as Grave Pact, flashable for surprise edicts that ping everyone.
  • Blasphemous Act — A near-free wrath that kills dozens of creatures, dealing a huge burst of Sonic Blast damage at once.
  • Bastion of Remembrance — Adds your own death triggers and stacks with Sonic Blast for an aristocrats damage core.
  • Mayhem Devil — Pings on every sacrifice anywhere, doubling up with Sonic Blast for repeatable burn.
  • Goblin Bombardment — Free sac outlet that lets you kill opponents' stolen/forced creatures and your own to trigger payoffs.

Upgrade Path

Lean into forced-sacrifice density—add Butcher of Malakir, Pitiless Plunderer, and more free sac outlets to maximize Sonic Blast triggers per turn. Improve the mana with Rakdos signets, fast lands, and a low curve so Shriek and recursive threats stick, and add reanimation or recursion (Feldon, Phyrexian Reclamation) to keep card flow against the discard cost. Tune toward repeatable wraths and edicts that punish go-wide tables for explosive multiplayer damage.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Repeated unblockable swings from a buffed or evasive threat
  • ▸Mass Sonic Blast pings from board wipes like Blasphemous Act
  • ▸Grave Pact / Dictate of Erebos sacrifice loops grinding all opponents to zero
  • ▸Aristocrats burn from Bastion of Remembrance, Mayhem Devil, and free sac outlets

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Forced sacrifice and death triggers convert dying creatures into Sonic Blast damage across the table.
  • Aggro — The unblockable ability every turn lets a wide or evasive board close games fast.
  • Group Slug / Burn — Sonic Blast plus edicts and wraths chip life totals passively as the board churns.
  • Sacrifice Control — Edict effects shrink opposing boards while each death rewards you with reach.
