The Commander

Guide

Gameplan

Sivitri Scarzam is a vanilla 5/4 for seven mana, so she contributes nothing in the command zone beyond colors and a body—you build a strong Dimir deck and treat her as an optional late-game beater. The real plan is to play UB control or combo: stall with removal and counters, accrue card advantage, then close with a tuned win package while Sivitri just adds pressure or chip damage when nothing better exists. Effectively you're playing a 99-card Dimir deck that happens to have a free 5/4 attached.

Strengths

  • Access to the deepest card advantage, removal, and counterspell pool in Blue-Black
  • Commander is replaceable—no reliance on the command zone means resilience to commander hate
  • Flexible into nearly any UB strategy (control, mill, reanimator, combo)
  • A 5/4 body is at least a real attacker/blocker if you have nothing else to do

Weaknesses

  • Commander provides zero abilities, card advantage, or ramp—pure tempo loss at seven mana
  • No built-in win condition; the deck must supply everything itself
  • Two colors limits ramp and color-fixing power versus 3+ color decks
  • Casting her is almost always a worse use of mana than another spell

Key Cards

  • Rhystic Study — Premier Blue card-advantage engine that keeps a commander-less deck flooded with resources.
  • Dimir Signet — Cheap fixing and ramp matter more when your commander does nothing for you.
  • Toxic Deluge — Scalable, hard-to-stop board wipe to anchor the control plan.
  • Reanimate — Lets you skip Sivitri's huge mana cost by cheating in far better threats.
  • Thassa's Oracle — A compact, reliable wincon the deck must provide since the commander can't.

Upgrade Path

Stop treating Sivitri as a wincon and lean fully into a streamlined Dimir control or combo shell—add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring), premium interaction (Force of Will, Mana Drain, Cyclonic Rift), and a tight two-card combo like Thassa's Oracle + Demonic Consultation. Prioritize tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) so the deck reliably assembles its win without depending on the command zone. The lower your reliance on Sivitri, the more competitive the deck becomes.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Thassa's Oracle or Laboratory Maniac with a self-mill/draw payoff
  • ▸Reanimating a game-ending threat and beating down
  • ▸Milling the table out with engines like Bruvac the Grandiloquent
  • ▸Grinding to inevitability with control + a few resilient finishers

Archetypes

  • Control — UB gives the best counters, spot removal, and wraths to grind the table out while you find a finisher.
  • Reanimator — Black recursion plus Blue card filtering cheats expensive bombs into play instead of casting a vanilla seven-drop.
  • Mill — Dimir's mill suite offers an alternate axis to win without needing the commander to do work.
  • Combo — Two colors support compact loops like Thassa's Oracle/Demonic Consultation that don't care about the commander.
