The Commander

First strike, vigilance, menace

Cleric, Rogue, Warrior, and Wizard spells you cast cost {1} less to cast.

At the beginning of combat on your turn, creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn. If you have a full party, creatures you control get +3/+0 until end of turn instead.

Guide

Gameplan

Assemble a 'full party' (Cleric, Rogue, Warrior, Wizard) to turn The Destined Warrior into a recurring combat anthem, then swing wide with an evasive, cost-reduced creature army. You deploy party-tagged creatures cheaply, use the commander as a hard-to-block beater that gives the team +3/+0 each combat, and grind value while pressuring all three opponents.

Strengths

  • Built-in keyword soup (first strike, vigilance, menace) makes the commander a resilient attacker and blocker on its own
  • Cost reduction on Cleric/Rogue/Warrior/Wizard spells covers a huge slice of creatures and accelerates your board
  • Repeatable team-wide +3/+0 with a full party closes games fast in go-wide builds
  • Esper colors give premium removal, card draw, counterspells, and recursion

Weaknesses

  • The +3/+0 buff requires a full party, which can be hard to keep online after board wipes
  • Anthem is power-only (+X/+0), so it does nothing to survive sweepers or improve blocks defensively
  • Three-color manabase plus needing creatures down makes the deck somewhat fragile to early disruption
  • No evasion granted to the team, so wide boards can get gummed up without payoff enablers

Key Cards

  • Coveted Prize — Tutors anything with a full party and refunds mana, finding your best creature or combo piece.
  • Inkfathom Witch — Wizard that turns your wide token board into a lethal evasive army alongside the commander's buff.
  • Tajuru Pathwarden — A single creature that fills three party slots, making a full party trivially easy to assemble.
  • Anowon, the Ruin Thief — Rogue payoff that draws cards and mills as your evasive creatures connect.
  • Skyclave Apparition — Cleric-typed removal that exiles problem permanents while advancing your party count.
  • Smothering Tithe — Esper staple ramp that fuels your already-discounted creature spells for explosive turns.

Upgrade Path

Lean into multi-type creatures like Tajuru Pathwarden and changelings (Mirror Entity, Realmwalker) to lock in full party reliably, then add evasion and overrun effects (Coastal Piracy, Inkfathom Witch, mass unblockable) so your buffed army actually connects. Upgrade the manabase with Esper duals, fetches, and fast mana (Smothering Tithe, signets), and include protective interaction—Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention—to survive the board wipes that punish go-wide strategies.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide party board buffed by +3/+0 swinging through with evasion for lethal
  • ▸Commander damage via The Destined Warrior wearing equipment/auras (menace + first strike)
  • ▸Rogue/mill payoffs like Anowon or Inkfathom Witch grinding life and cards
  • ▸Incidental combo finishes (e.g., token doublers or anthem stacks) overrunning the table

Archetypes

  • Party Aggro — Cost reduction and the +3/+0 combat trigger reward flooding the board with party-typed creatures and attacking.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — The repeatable power anthem scales hardest across many bodies, especially with evasion enablers.
  • Voltron-lite — First strike, vigilance, and menace plus self-buffs make the commander a credible suit-up beater for early commander damage.
  • Aggro-Control — Esper gives counters and removal to protect your party while you race opponents down.
