BuildCard details

The Commander

Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)

Whenever Ty Lee attacks, you may pay {1}. When you do, target creature can't block this turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up Ty Lee with cheap noncreature spells and equipment, then swing in repeatedly while paying {1} to clear away the best blocker so the damage connects. Prowess turns your burn, pump, and protection spells into combat-relevant buffs, letting a small creature snowball into a lethal threat by turn 4-5.

Strengths

  • Prowess plus the can't-block trigger makes her a reliable, evasive Voltron threat that punches through any single blocker
  • Mono-red gives consistent, fast mana and deep access to cheap noncreature spells, burn, and impulse draw
  • Cheap commander (3 mana) that comes down early and pressures all three opponents quickly
  • Synergizes naturally with the spellslinger package most red decks already want to run

Weaknesses

  • Mono-red lacks reliable card advantage, so you can run out of gas after dumping your hand
  • The can't-block trigger only removes one blocker, so go-wide token defenses and multiple flyers/walls slow her down
  • Very dependent on the commander connecting—heavy removal or repeated bounce shuts the deck off
  • No built-in protection; she dies to any spot removal and must be re-suited each time

Key Cards

  • Embercleave — Cost is slashed by your aggressive attacks and immediately threatens lethal commander damage with double strike and trample.
  • Fireblade Charger — Cheap one-drop that scales with your noncreature spells and pings on death, modeling the spellslinger curve.
  • Bonecrusher Giant — Adventure card gives early removal then a body, a perfect noncreature-then-creature value piece.
  • Light Up the Stage — Cheap impulse draw that refuels the hand and triggers prowess to push damage.
  • Reckless Charge — Haste plus a big buff that lets Ty Lee swing the turn she lands and triggers prowess.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Protection, evasion-adjacent value, and card draw on the most reliable connector in the deck.
  • Birgi, God of Storytelling — Refunds mana on every spell cast, fueling chains of prowess triggers and the {1} can't-block payment.

Upgrade Path

Lean into low-curve consistency: add fast mana (Jeska's Will, Birgi, treasure makers) and impulse-draw engines (Experimental Frenzy, Outpost Siege) to beat red's card disadvantage. Tighten the equipment suite around protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves) and finishers (Embercleave, Sword of Feast and Famine), and add free or cheap spells (Mutagenic Growth, Defiant Strike) to spike prowess for surprise lethal.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Lethal commander damage via Embercleave or a Sword while the can't-block trigger removes the key blocker
  • ▸Chaining prowess pumps and burn spells in one turn for a huge connecting hit
  • ▸Going wide with cheap aggressive creatures and burning out the rest

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Her unblockable trigger plus prowess makes her an ideal target for equipment and pump to deal lethal commander damage.
  • Spellslinger — Every noncreature spell pumps her via prowess, rewarding a high density of cheap instants and sorceries.
  • Aggro/Burn — Mono-red curve of cheap threats and burn closes games fast while spells double as combat buffs.
